Mr. Clean Magic eraser. I don't know what they put in that stuff but it does a great job at cleaning corks, as well as getting the scum-line off of boats. I actually pulled a rod and reel off the bottom of the lake. It had been there several weeks to a couple of monts - was covered in algae. The Mr. Clean magic eraser made it look brand new, with very little elbow grease.
The reel doctor at bullfrog creak told me a few years ago to use dish washing liquid.
Seemed to work pretty well.

i seen a pro on tv use ultra fine sandpaper much like wet sand paper and he just sanded a bit off... it makes sense but i dunno how well it would work though.....
Lestoil since the grime is usually grease based anyway.
Straight rubbing alcohol does a nice job, but I like mine to smell like fish.
use clorox and hot water
It might have been on this site but I was informed to try Mr Clean's magic eraser also.
It worked O.K.
Personally, I don't care if my cork handles are a little dirty. As mhall stated, I like mine to smell like fish!! LOL
Clorox Dawn dish washing liquid and water. I like to use those green pot scrubbers too. They will look like new. I haven't tried the magic eraser but I may try that next time. The bleach way definitely works!!
Well, there's a ton of different replys. Here's another one. I use cork cleaner fron Net Craft once a year. You just sand the handles til they're scruffed, then use a small paint brush to apply. Works very well. Phil
toothpaste and toothbrush, just not the one you use daily.....![]()
Leave the plastic on when you buy them! Just kidding, I have used the Mister Clean Magic Eraser a few times and it worked fine. I just don't clean my very often.
