Right! I stand corrected; knew it was the professor and don't know why I wrote it was the Skipper. Was thinking about all the characters at the time. Gilligan's Island sure stirred up some memories from many years ago.
First of all if your children are watching "Family Guy" you are not doing something right. It is not a kids show. If you have ever watched that show more than once, you would see that they make fun of everyone equally. "American Dad" is made by the same guy (Seth McFarland), and that character is a devout republican, and has made similar jabs at Obama.
I think blaming our country's decline on the media is overshooting the real issue. What about the parents that allow their children to watch anything. I am glad I have the choice to watch whatever I want, and I am also responsible enough to make the choice for what I see as appropriate for my kids to watch.
I think the Family Guy is one of the best shows out there. In fact I Tivo'd it and may watch it again.
Ginger was not bad either and the Beverly Hillbillys, Elly May in those short shorts and halters, I has to be between her and Mary Ann. lol lol lol. On the subject of racy cartoons, some of you should remember the older Bugs Bunny cartoons and others, A lot of them were not ment for children back then, as they were considered RACY, and some had political overtones, but I do agree that some now are not for children, but in this country we HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH and also FREEDOM OF THE REMOTE. So is someone finds something they do not agree with then they have the right to switch the channel, however these same should not try to control what others watch. But I sure love ole ANDY that was one of the best shows ever on TV, not only was it entertaining but it also taught us about morals and being decent and caring for others, we need more shows like ANDY GRIFFITH.
The way it goes in my house is if I can't watch the TV with my kids in the room then I don't see that it is good for me or my eyes either. So if they don't watch it I don't watch it. So I have never seen Family guy or the Simpsons. I do feel that the video games with the graphics and violence on them shouldn't be seen or played by kids or adults. It is setting a double standard if you can play a game and its not suitable for kids. What happened to Atari games such as combat or space invaders. Me and my family growing up had countless hours playing these games together, I can't imagine playing playing grand theft auto with my kids now or with my parents back then.
You've never seen the Simpsons!!!??? Wow.The way it goes in my house is if I can't watch the TV with my kids in the room then I don't see that it is good for me or my eyes either. I don't believe there are any double standards when it comes to things adults can do as opposed to kids - there are simply some things that adults can do that kids should not. That is like saying I don't drive because, my kids don't. Just because i do something, doesn't mean that I am granting access for kids to do it as well. I will always see "R" rated movies, watch tv shows that are "MA", drink the occassional beer, and cuss when I hit my thumb with a hammer - that does not mean I would allow my kids to do any of these.
Col. I didn't expect you to agree with what I feel is right. I figure if it's bad or trash why should I watch it and put that trash in my body or mind. I feel that if you put trash in your body then you'll get trash out of your body. I feel that if somebody cuss's then their not smart enough to come up with any better to say. This is the way I feel I don't expect anybody to agree with me this is just what I believe.
1). I NEVER said my kids watch Family Guy............I'd NEVER let them watch it, and I DON'T either.........Poor Humor, if you ask me.First of all if your children are watching "Family Guy" you are not doing something right. 2). Come on...............Blaming the MEDIA for EVERYTHING is just about right. More SEX, more Violence, MORE politically correct BS........MORE out of the closet, it is OK HOMOSEXUAL activity.........MORE ANTI-Religion...........MORE........well EVERYTHING THAT is BAD...........
3). It explains a TON about you that you think FAMILY GUY is a GREAT show.........WOW. I bet you like south park and that BS ALSO..........
Yes South Park is a good one too. There is such a thing as satire. I do not interpret everything in a literal sense. Comedy is always pushing the envelope. The problem is not what is on tv, it is not knowing what kids are watching. Censorship is not the answer. Just because you don't find something entertaining does not mean it is rubbish. I think boxing is barbaric - but I can't stop watching it. Since when did the television become a baby sitter - or temporary parent responsible for teaching values to youth. These things should be taugh by the family.1). I NEVER said my kids watch Family Guy............I'd NEVER let them watch it, and I DON'T either.........Poor Humor, if you ask me.

Conservatives seem to preach taking the government out of everything, that is of course unless it applies to matters of morality - where they feel the government should take every opportunity to make us all good christians.
Dang Col, I was with you on everything you were saying in this thread until you stated that. As a 41-year-old man who spent nearly half his life in a boxing ring I am offended! Just kidding, but I do agree with you that somethings are suitable for adults but not kids.
I think it is barbaric, but I love it. It takes a great athlete to be a boxer. I know a fatty like me would wear out in about 30 seconds of throwing punches.
