    All things OIL................

You know.......we ALL here about alternative fuels.........Hydrogen, Electric Hybrid, Natural Gas, and YES STEAM...........but have you ever wondered how you're going to pull that 3000lb 21 ft Triton with ANY of the above fuels.

With technology from today, NO alternative fuel will be able to power a vehicle enough to make it an effective tow vehicle........Maybe Natural GAS, but certainly not electric, or electric hybrid, or a Hydro fuel cell.

AND......if we do get alternative fuels........WILL our way of life, meaning hooking up the boat and heading to KY for a 4-5 day fishing trip change......Our fishing MAY be a thing of the PAST..........

    Something to think about.

I can see the writing on the wall.............50 million vehicles on some other type of fuel, but Tow vehicles still requiring GASOLINE or Diesel, but the price of a gallon being 10 bucks.............WOW.

    What do you all think?

    Right you ARE......

    I have a 19ft Tracker TX with 90hp optimax.........Weighs about 1000 lbs.

My point was not about the weight as much as it is about the towing.

I think NONE of the alternatives will work very well.........

On another site someone talked about BioFuel, but that is not legit, if you ask me.

When we talk energy we talk wind, solar, nuclear, natural gas, clean coal etc. Why doesn’t anyone talk hydroelectric is the cheapest cleanest form of electricity and the byproduct is recreation which will bring in millions of dollars to the local economy. How many damns could you build for the cost of one nuclear plant?

    Good point...

But I think about Tractor Trailers and Medium Duty trucks on the road right now. They move our goods, food, and supplies across this country and that won't change anytime soon. Unless they develop new Tractors that run on alternative fuels and have enough torque to yank 53' trailers and thousands of pounds up and down the highways, there will continue to be a large need for Diesel.

I think you'll continue to see the Electric/Hybrid push focused mostly on cars and SUVs...and trucks will largely remain the gas, diesel, or flex fuel setups that we see now...BUT, hybrid options will come on the scene there too. There is to be a Hybrid Silverado in 2009 with a 6100 pound towing capacity, for instance.

If demand falls for regular gas in the future, prices could actually fall with it, adjusted for inflation of course. I just don't know if it will happen in our lifetime.

If you remove the need for "glittery good looks" and tournament speed, lighter aluminum boats can satisfy the needs of everyday anglers just fine. I like the way fiberglass boats look, and I like the speed, and I like their profile that is less affected by the wind...but I'll never own one. Give me an aluminum boat, well-appointed, with a decent motor and I'm just fine...and it can hardly be felt behind my F150...and it doesn't drain my towing gas mileage to nothing...and it doesn't burn much fuel on the water.
