    Stoner

Does anyone know if the Duckweed is off of Stoner yet? We usually try to take an election day trip to Ike's. Last year it was bad and we ended up at Carnico, although most of my trolling motor battery was dead from trying to get through the junk. Man was it a mess. I kept thinking if I could just get above the flats then it would clear up. WRONG! So anyway I was wondering if anyone down that way knew. We live in Northen KY and we didn't want to make the trip if it is unfishable. By the way, I see people talking about another place to put in on Stoner, Frymans maybe? If anyone could lead me to a new section of the creek I would love to try it. We would be coming in heading south on 27. I'll be happy to post any info.

    Toby,
Frymans is probably the better choice this time of year, the report I received today was that Frymans still had some weed against the banks and lay downs.
There is no flow at this time and getting above the flats (rocky shores) is tough in anything more than a jon boat. The creek is at 11.5 and the temp is around 59.
I will know a little more about Ike's after tomorrow.

Never been their, so I don't know the acreage but duckweed to me is gooooood. Use oars and a rubber frog. OMG. I have had fish demolish a frog with water in the 50's. They hit it with the intension of good eats. Just fish it real slow. Twitch, pause, pause, pause, couple of twitches. Just slow.

I haven't been to Ike's for a couple weeks, but last time I went up it was still messy, but fishable if you have the patience. I went out to Fryman's Saturday afternoon, bgwyllys61 was right on with his post, water was at 56. We caught 5 fish in about 3 hours, only two were keepers though. As far as the duckweed goes, there is quite a bit still after the split on the stoner side, but it seems to be in thick patches rather than spread out evenly as it has been in the last month or so, not sure at all about the strodes side, from what i could see it looked decent enough. We caught every single fish on white spinnerbaits, most on double willow. Fished the frog/rat for a while on the moss, not even a swirl , which is suprising--because we have landed at least one on the topwaters everytime out for the last 4 or 5 months or so. I suppose I just wasn't holding my mouth right. :-)

Went up Stoner sunday afternoon, water was pretty clear, duckweed has lifted quite a bit, but still alot of vegetation under the surface. I was in the jon boat so i didnt get a temerature reading. I talked to a couple of boaters that said they had no luck, I didn't get a single hit, called it quits after about 2 hours. Spent most of the time pulling weeds off of the crankbait. The water level is still a little low but it is starting to look better.

Thanks for all the info. I'll let you know when we get back how we do. We typically fish on memories of one year on election day that we killed them. I mean we really filled the boat up. Found them on jerkbaits. It was my first ever jerkbait bite and man was it fun. It rained most of the day and it was cold but it was 70 and sunny to me. What a blast. Vote early, eat a big breakfast on the road and fish untill dark, good living.

The creek is at 12' today, but the duck weed and other debri depends on the wind. The creek was clear for a while this morning and the wind picked up then scattered the crap out again. I will post something Mon. night regarding the conditions at Ikes.

I may go to Frymans Tues. morning seem to like it better this time of year. Another guy that posts on hear told me of a secret spot that he and his partner always fish and I'm looking forward to exploiting it.

    Re: Stoner

fished out of frymans last thursday and this past sunday. thursday i caught most my fish off the submerged vegetation with a white spinnerbait...tandem blade.
sunday was tougher...the wind was ridiculous and i have a small boat, so that was part of the problem. did manage a couple healthy smallies off the rocks and up strodes side. water is cooling off quick...rattle traps should be a good choice soon.
