I'm of slavish descent but since 1996 I've been afro american. That's when I needed to get promoted and needed to use affirmative action to work for me. Since then I have been Afro american. I got married again 2 years ago and the clerk at the court house asked me my race. I told her Afro american and she comn' now. I said that's it, don't insult me again. She did the paperwork without a word.

Well I'm Irish-German-Cherokee Indian but normally put down white when asked...But now due to all the special advantages all the minorities receive when applying for school's and other such applications. Where your actual race is used as a preference...I've decided to go that route and see just how that system works.....

I've already told both my sons to put down Irish-German-Cherokee Indian as their race from now on. Was told by the School Administration that no matter what the grades are for Minorities, they have to automatically accept so many into the schools to equal out the school population. So I guess you all know where I'm going with my new race selection. I (kids as well) just have to select the block marked "Other" when annotating my race. Even though both my sons are straight A's & B's in school. Enough ranting this morning....

    Re: I'm surrounded by morons!

There is a BIG double standard in this country. My freshman year in college I had a professor, an angry black lady, have us write a paper on the advantages the white race has and dont realize it! This was the FIRST DAY OF CLASS!! It was simple English 101 not some African American studies class.

Needless to say I was irrate, and as soon as that class was over I demanded out of it and which I did (on a side not I got switched into a class were I met my wife so I probably should have stayed! haha jk). Anyhow I was appauled to hear the next year she was professor of the year! During that day of glass a mixed half white half black man stood up and said that he always put black even though he is 50/50 because it benefited him! Sheesh.

My wife is from Paraguay. Her mom is half German and her dad is a quarter German. She moved here when she was three and baisically puts white on everything. I tell her not to because she is a minority and she speaks spanish so that can only help her when it comes to job and school apps and even she says thats unfair!

As for Obama loosing and/or being assinated (to be honest Id actually be pretty sad for my country if he was) I don't things would be too pretty.

Im pretty young (23) and growing up in Birmingham I have heard stories my parents told me about the racial tension there. But it seems, I dont know why, that in the last five years or so I'm starting to feel that racial tension my parents have talked about, from both sides. HighSchool was a mess, I went to Ballard. While I had friend that were black, that school even though Id consider it a nice "east end school" was so racially divided it was sad. I played football, during the supper before the games, you could have split a line down the cafeteria between the races. My personal assumption though is that white people accept black people easier then the other way around. My black friends were constantly accused of "being white" and I felt bad for them for that.

Holy crap, thats too much, Im sstopping here! (**** monster energy drink!)

JD7.62 you hit it on the nose. I was born and raised in Alabama and am appalled when I go back for visits. I remember how bad segregation was at one point and then it seemed to have changed with the civil rights movement. Now, the blacks have migrated back to their old neighborhoods and schools and have voluntarily segregated themselves in communities and schools in many areas. I have a white friend since childhood who owns a cattle ranch just outside Selma, AL. We all remember Selma from the civil rights marches. Most of the whites closed up shop and left, refusing to be pushed any further, but the blacks continued to move into the city. I was there visiting my white friend a while back and Selma is now a rat infested, falling down, neglected pile of junk that looks more like a landfill than a city. It's hard to see a white face when you drive down the streets. The blacks went right back to their old ways and voluntarily segregated themselves in the very city where the trouble began. I don't think they know what they want and just follow whomever they hear saying what they want to hear.

Since I was told so many times it didn't, not so long ago I did some checking to see if the family tree forked anywhere. (Thought maybe I could claim minority status, get a sizeable small business loan, take the money and run.) Turns out my GG Grandfather was the first westbound Pony Express rider. Ole Billy Richardson, unlike myself a pretty tough hombre.

My pitiful claim to fame is that my grandparents were from Ireland and owned a large brewery--Irish Whiskey. I never had any problem understanding why my grandmother loved good whiskey and had a bottle sitting under her bed when she died. Everybody told her for years that whiskey would kill her and it did, when she was 93.

My granny who passed at the age of 92, had a remedy for the common cold just like granny Clampett. A jar of bourban with a stick of peppermint floating in it. A couple of shots of her remedy and in a week or 10 days the cold was gone. Strongest and toughest woman I've ever known, my granny.

Now the folks on my dad's side (the Johnson William side) were for the most part roughnecks and outlaws. I was at a Richardson family reunion at the tender age of 4, and cops had to break it up. Every one of em from ole lady Richardson, my granny on that side, to my youngest uncle got into a saloon style chair smashing brawl. The old man sustained a knife wound to the hand and virtually every stick of furniture in the house got broken along with a few heads.
