the only thing i know of that will change with lowering the jackplate is performance, but, if its too high, it might perform better after you lower it....
Sounds like steering cables to me!
It won't hurt anything, as mentioned before it changes performance. Once you get your steering problem figured out you may want to toy with the jackplate some until you get it setup best for you. Mine was way to high, now I think it is just a little too low.
I to am new but would think it should turn just as easy in the water as out. So if it was the jack which raise the motorout of the water which could make it hard to steer. Or are you saying that the plate it self is interfearing with the turning?
