To: Thief that broke into my boat & tried to steal it last night

Thanks for at least leaving the boat partially in my driveway and half in the road and not getting away with it completely. Thanks for stealing all my black lights, graphs, trolling moter, crank baits and my buzz baits... Thanks for drilling through the rod locks and ripping the carpet in the process. Thanks for taking away the one thing I have worked my entire life to afford and enjoy with my kids.... Thanks for the headaches I will have in the future from dealing with the insurance company to replace eveything that you STOLE.
The one thing I hope for you my "friend" is that someone returns the favor, because Lord knows, had I caught you in the process, they would be doing an autopsy right now on your chicken behind..... Thank the GOOD LORD ABOVE that I didnt catch you, it saved your life as well as it keeps my kids daddy around. I live in Lexington, so if anyone is approached by someone selling black lights, graphs, trolling moter and BOXES of crank baits cheap, send them my way!!!

And for those of you who will say," you shouldnt have had the stuff in the boat, I will go ahead and tell you, I couldnt afford the storage fee anymore, I am struggling to pay my bills and keep my family afloat much less spend the money on a storage area. I dont have anywhere else to keep it and I dont have room anywhere in my house for the stuff since i have a new baby and I lost my hunting/fishing room...
Again, THANKS for stealing the things i have had for years, along with baits my grandfather and father passed down to me that I was passing down to my kids... I PRAY FOR YOU I DONT FIND OUT WHO YOU ARE...

Jeff, that blows. I've been broken into before and know the feeling. It just makes you wonder what's wrong with some people. The fella(s) that did this to you need to have a severe arse whooping.

The pawn shops are supposed to make a monthly/weekly log and present to the police dept. a buddy got his bow and a couple other items back like that.
Sorry that this crap happened. You may want to consider a drive way alarm 12.00 on amazon.

Nothing worse than a thief, except for a thief that steals fishing stuff. I wish you the best in dealing with your insurance, stay on them. I know everything physically attached to the boat (bolted, screwed in or glued) is considered part of the boat and not fishing equipment - so it should be covered. Congrats on the new baby - I would say your fishing time is limmited with that going on - so at least you have some time to deal with insurance.

I really hope everything works out, and hope the guy gets what he deserves.

Thanks for the kind words, the one solace is that I am in fact, still at home with my wife and kids.. My new born wouldnt get to know her daddy had I caught them... The Lord works in mysterios ways, so I am leaving it to him. Doesnt make my anger go away or the hope of finding out who they were so they dont do it again to someone else. Thanks again for all the kind words, been a tough day, sorry for venting but everyone on here is always very supportive... Good fishing, and thanks again for all the kind words...

This is a good place to vent, we all need to from time to time. Again sorry for your hardship.

That is sad, sad, sad. I wish you the best and hope the insurance is as smooth as possible. The thief will eventually end up on the wrong end of something. Good Luck.

Talking Re: To: Thief that broke into my boat & tried to steal it last night

Lots of people leave their stuff locked in the boat, no biggie there. I came home from coaching a softball game one night and I lived in Richmond. Mind you in a subdivision that you could have slept with the doors open if you wanted too. Well when I turned onto my street it was about 10:30-11:00 pm and I noticed everybody's trunks were open and the doors were open to their cars. I pull into my driveway and my boat cover snaps were all undone. They must have got spooked cause my lab or jack russell going crazy, cause my wife said she heard them going nuts about 30 minutes before I had arrived. Well long story short, my neighbor got it pretty good golf clubs and they actually broke the lock off of his out-building and rogued his fishing stuff. Tackle boxes, rods, everything. When the cop showed up he came over to the house and said did they get anything, I said no but had I been here they'd have got 3 loads of #4's and instead of you they'd have needed the coroner. He said oh you can't do that, I said let them come back and try me! I said my wife was here with a small child and I can guarantee you I could have sold a jury on the fact that she was scared for her life. So if I get called on your case if you find the bastages, I too will let you walk my friend.

Im now lawyer, but KY is a castel doctorine state. In a nut shell it says the use of deadly force is justified when a felony is being commited on that person's property. The caveat to that is that it says, "The commission of criminal trespass, robbery, burglary, or other felony involving the use of force, ..." so that could be debatable. Unfortunately too we are not protected from civil liabilities.

Actually the new law has immunity from civil action if the physical force or defensive force used was permitted by law. So no criminal or civil actions if you follow the law.

Physical force would be allowed for someone stealing from a boat but defensive force, shooting someone, would not be allowed unless the boat was in a dwelling where people could sleep.

This URL goes to the page that covers the entire law on this situation.

For now one, one night a week, I will sleep on my boat in the driveway. Not sure how the definition works, but to me, that would make an attack on my boat a home invasion.

I think if the law was fair, and we caught a thief, his punishment ought be to assume our boat payments.
