Kerosun heater

Getting away from all the politickin. Has anyone installed a new wick in a kerosun heater? I just bought two kerosun's at a yard sale. one is a radiant 10 the other is a radiant 8. The 10 is brand new works great the 8 is in like new shape but the wick is burnt up. I plan on getting a new one tomorrow with some K1. I bought these for my garage so I can work on the boat and tackle, drink beer and smoke my ceeegars. Bought both of these heaters for $10.00 so if the wick's are obsolete I'm not out much.Any help appreciated. Joe G

You can buy a package of replacements wicks at most places that sell Kerosun Heaters. Hint: When you go to buy the wicks, open one of the new heaters, take out the instructions and read how to change the wick (or ask a salesperson to show you how). While you are there, may as well buy some new batteries for the lighter; that beats the heck out of trying to light the heaters with a match.

The wick may look burned up but just needs a good trimming. Roll it up and look to be sure.

I'm thinking of getting one, but wonder how safe they are.

I got it on my list of things to look for at BPS this week. I've seen a coleman propane deal that looks like the ticket. I'll email you my list.

We have a propane Coleman Outdoor Heater. It can't be used in an enclosed area because of carbon monoxide but we park that puppy on the front of the boat, and it will melt the ice off our rump before we can make a 360 turn. Ours does well while trolling. The negative side is that you have to find a way to secure it so it won't tip over when the wind or waves hit.

Just a very important note of CAUTION: Don't use a kerosene or propane heater in the area near the boat gas tank because of escaping fumes. There could be a "blastoff" not related to a fishing tournament.

Because there is always a safety issue involved with heaters, I make no recommendation either way. Just sharing how we use ours.

We have used one every Winter with no problems other than the wind. We keep it on the front deck of the bassboat. I would be careful around enclosed areas just in case there are gas fumes, just like Bassin_Bug mentioned.

I use a single mantle coleman and a 5 gallon bucket with some sand in it. Have used this setup in 2-3 boats for 30+ years works like a champ. if you bend the handle a little and slide the plastic grip handle out of the way. You can use two pair jersey gloves with the index and thumb cut off and alternately dry them when they get wet. works for me and CHEAP......

Is that a Coleman lantern your talking about? I got the ones that use the propane bottles, not the actual Coleman Fuel...I guess this would work for keeping my fingers a little warm, if I do go fishing in the " COLD ".....Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....Just makes goose bumps pop out on me just thinking about being out in sub degree temps fishing....The fish had better be biting good...in order for me to be out......lol

Clyde put your long handles on and go with me this weekend. My buddy and I are hitting Shafer Lake in Indiana for smallies.. calling for high of 38 rain/sleet/snow saturday 43 partly cldy Sunday. Graet smallmouth weather. I got my shorts and sandals, Jack Daniels ready. Rumor has it they love Black-bear hair jigs tied by a salty old sarge. Time will tell. Everyone will laugh but I am also trying some homemade pork rind about the size of a U-2 Uncle Josh some dyed black some brown been soaking in Bang Craw for about a month. I caught a smallie this last Sun about 1 3/4 lb on a U/L with 4 lb test with one of your jigs the black/orange one on of your heads I trimed the hair to the bend of the hook and no trailer FUN !!! Sorry for the dble post tried to edit and screeeeeewed up

A friend of mine, uses a propane tank (from the grill) and got the heater attachment for it.
He made up an attachment that holds the tank to the front seat pole and secures it to the front deck. Easy to take on and off, but will stay put in the waves or while running. Keep him warm, unless the wind is really strong. Good luck
