1. Both took over in January, 2007;

2. Both came in on the heels of unprecedented success during the previous 4 years (UL's football had become a national power, the US economy had enjoyed tremendous growth);

3. Both came in with popularity, only to see that popularity plummet in less than a year;

4. Both possessed an inability to translate their message into action.

5. Both saw strong institutions crumble under their watch and were incapable of turning the ship back in the right direction.

6. Both then tried to shift the blame to their predecessors.
