Barkley/KYL- what section this time of year?

    Guys-

The water level on Dale may kill my trip for next weekend. Thinking I might use Barkley or KYL as a backup. Normally I fish the North end of Barkley and stay around Grand Rivers or Kuttawa because this shortens an already long drive from Northern Kentucky. It also gives me access to launches on the East Side of KYL down around Smith Bay.

Is this a good area this time of year? Should I be thinking more like Little River and staying at the lodge?

Thanks, the last 12 months has been horrible on my planned trips, drought, then flood, then 10 inches of snow, then 100 degree temps in early June, now few ramps at Dale launchable. I hope the next 12 months is better on my beloved fishing trips!

I usually love the north end this time of year, especially on Ky. I have only been out a few days the last couple or weeks, so I can't tell you for sure. I know there were several great bags 18 - 20 lbs. in a several hour weeknight tournament this past week - so people are definitely catching fish on the north end of the lakes.

Run to eddie creek and fish the first cove on your left just before entering the creek. Caught some big fish in there. There are docks in the back and also laydowns. Be sure to fish all the laydowns no matter how shallow. We were killing them on spinnerbaits(white and blue) There is also a little cut on the right of that cove where a road bed cuts straight across. Fish it also. The baitfish should be stacked in there. The point on the cut was also loaded with fish. Good Luck!

Thanks Guys! Maybe I should go to Barkley regardess of water level at Dale.

Given the cold front going through the area now and modest warming by next weekend, do you think this will help concentrate the fish and improve conditions or send them deep?

    thanks

    Steve,
There should be an excellent top water bite at times and I know they've been catching them good with spoons right now 2. North Kentucky.....check the backs of bays. Dave Stewarts report is right on as well. Friday was really skinny at Holly Creek. Launched trolling motor only into about 6" of water....no joke. This is the lowest I've seen it. We still cracked them good Friday was awesome.....lots of bites to be had. I was looking for fish, but those that were fishing hard were cracking them.
