    Question Auto bail out

Hey its ONLY 25 billion. So if we let them go under, how much will it save the american taxpayer? About 85 bucks a person. So the UAW workers will be covered under ERISA Cost to the tax payer about 25 bucks. Cost to states for unemployment insurance, another 10 bucks. But now we have car dealers. About 200, 000 dealers and emplyees, vacant buildings off the tax roles, fewer folks paying into my social security. And it will much easier to shop for autos with only 5 choices to make, and who will set the costs for autos? And what if overseasauto makers decide they will only finance car loans? Cant happen?Wanna bet? The financial bail out works fine, no money is being lent out, exec bonuses are being paid, most cuts to middle managers. Homes still being forclosed. i'm glad. i was so happy to hear about that 85 I now have been saved from paying.OOOOPs. Just opened my insurance benefits package, deduction went up, drug coverage went up, and now its only saving me about 15 bucks, But its great about letting the auto makers go under, the price of a chinese humvee will go down[if they make them], we can buy our armour off germany or russia, if they want to sell it to us.I'm glad congress is trying to cut costs, what about capping congessional pensions, and medical benefits, how much does that cost us?

Now I'm really kicking myself! In a patriotic ferver, I bought an american truck, made in ohio, and with these lower gas prices just got back from a 1200 mile trip in four daysWhat if next year it breaks down? Where will I get afordable parts, and how many months will I need to wait for an appointment to get a dealer to repair it?What if toyota or honda decide not to make american parts? Just thought about sticking my head in the oven, but its electric, not only would it just give me a bad headache, its electric, and my rates went up almost 25%.Got to check my insurance to see if cranial injureess are coverd.Gee if I knew I was going to have so many problems in my old age, I would have never cut back on the drinking!

    Re: Auto bail out

Well congress better wake up and smell the coffee, cause if just (1) American Auto Maker goes under, it'll cost the USA 2.5 million lost jobs nation wide....Yes I'm correct, that's how many people it takes to build the American made Auto's from start to finish. from the guy will builds the light bulbs that go in the dash board...to the guy who builds the tires that go on the vehicles...to the guy who does the test drive to make sure the vehicle is up to par for the public to buy.....

The bailout isn't just about the UAW workers in the actual Auto Makers Plants...it's about everyone involved in making the Auto's....

    Re: Auto bail out

I'm not an expert on this latest debacle but I have a few questions.
    1) I thought Toyota had pushed into the big three years ago, who's out?
    2) Why isn't Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes about to go bankrupt? Maybe they are?
    3) What has been the UAW's impact on the present state of affairs? Bad I assume.
    4) I thought if these companies file for chapter 11 they still produce, sell, service and basically stay open while they restructure?
    5) Why believe anything the guys and gals in Congress say? What happened to having a handle on the Mortgage meltdown? They are still figuring that one out.
Just curious....but who's next? The ship builders Union? The blacktop pavers of america union? The kroger meat packers union? (made these unions up)
I'm very pesimistic about HUGE corporations saying they need help. Especially ones like the Automakers who have had their way with the american people for how many years? These corps are corrupt like the gubment in fact I would say they are in bed with several of the people in congress. If they get help then there should be no bonus to any member of management until the money is paid back, NONE! Cut their daggone pay and figure out a way to get the union stronghold off their back.

    Re: Auto bail out

To add to what DJD said, IF we give them the bail out, what assurances do we have that they'll do something different? A big part of the reason that the "big 3" are in such dire straights is that they've miss-managed the companies for years. I certainly would not be willing to give ANY bail out money if it was going to be business as usual. What changes do they plan to make IF they get bail out money?

btw, I thought the US was a capitalist society. Isn't a bail out socialist?

I say let the rich ***' come down to earth and live off of a pay check like mine. Let us common folk have a vote on them getting bailed out or not.

    I vote NOT!

    Re: Auto bail out

It's not a Bail Out...It's a Loan for the Auto Industries...... I'd rather keep Ford, GM's and Chrysler above water before I'd keep Toyota, Nissan or any other Foreign owned Auto Company from going under.......Think about this people...The Top 3 Auto Companies keep the dollars spent on their products here in the USA...The dollars earned by Foreign Auto Companies goes oversea's to NON-American Companies......

True but something like $60mil is what I hear for a CEO and the other perks. I think they need to tighten up a bit. I do not want to see anyone out of work. Sometimes you have to trim the fat. Let them trim. Paying to put their names on buildings, tv stars advertiseing for them. Privet jets and who knows what else? That's all im saying.

And with our government. We need to stop trying to buy love from countries that could care less about us and let us use that money at home in the US.

Tell it Brother Tell it!!!!!!! Buick alone (GM) was paying that Tiger Woods like 18 million dollars to do their stupid commercials. When I see the Fat Cats start to ligitimately give up their extravagent wealth and make concessions and these criminal Unions give some then I might be willing to at least listen.
Lee Iacocca worked for a dollar until Chrysler got back on it's feet and he seen that the government got payed back every dime.
The big three leaders now couldn't carry that man's brief case. He is a bigtime conservative will old fashioned hard work values and ethics. The three are saw and listened to at those talks were greedy no count SOB'S. I'll say it again to Hell with'em and let the lesson be learned for future generations it's the only way this decadence will ever stop. FIRE'EM ALL AND LET GOD SORT'EM OUT!!!!!

    Re: Auto bail out

Well from the looks of the News reports on what the 3 Major Auto makers are going to do to trim the fat as you say.....Looks like Ford's CEO is going to work for $ 1.00 for every year the Loan is made for the contract. All the jets are being stored, cleaned and sold, plus other items will be sold off to help retool the companies.
