Granted things started melting down before the election, and the MELTDOWN actually caused McCAIN not be be elected, BUT.........Obama's comments with regards to taxes, , capital gains, windfall profits TAX on retirement, WindFall profits TAX on oil companies, etc, etc, etc.........THEY ALL are keeping the markets STAGNANT.

I believe what he is saying is that the promises that Barry made have companies and people kinda nervous. Smart business is to wait and see what he will do.
Col, look at what he is already saying about his educational ideas. They are going to the back burner..#5 on the list so don't expect much from that. I think Barry kinda got the whole country thinking he is the Messiah so now he is having to live up to the media hype and great speeches. On a serious note anyone have an idea of what has happened to the price of oil? It's great but what caused it? No Hurricanes? Economy? OPEC get the hint? The answer before was that's what happens when an election is over.

Don't forget that the high prices have always been blamed on Bush and his oil connections, remember? Hillary and Nancy P. swore to everyone that once they take control of Congress this gouging would stop. What happened? The prices went through the roof! Whose fault was that? Libs, like I said in the beginning.

Didn't Barry and Al Gore say the prices are ok at $4.00 a gallon? Something along the lines of now we will be forced to seek other sources of fuel. Myself, I like the idea of REAL LEADERSHIP that looks forward without being backed into the corner. That's the fault of all those goons not just one party.

I think the low gas prices can't be pinned on any group, nor the high prices that we saw and will see again should be pinned on any group - I was just making a point. I think the high gas prices is one of the only perks for consumers in this economic crisis. We all know this crisis is due to the accumulation of many factors none of which are the President elect's fault - however, you could put some of the blame on paranoid conservatives spreading fear of what the future holds. Truth is you don't know what will happen, neither do I - I am just hoping for the best.

On the education note - I am fine with education getting pushed to the back burner for the time being. The absolute worst thing that can be done to education now is to impose a bunch of changes without any resource or financial backing available to make those changes - that is what G.W. did, and we (educators) are still trying to dig ourselves out of that hole. I think educaion, educational accountability, and educational structure will undergo some possitive changes during this next administration - but the economy must take priority to all other issues for now.

I am afraid you might HAVE to believe it, cause it is true unfortunately. Bush IS still in office, BUT his policies can be wiped out on Jan 21st with a simple executive order (which Obama has said MANY times he plans to use extensively immediately after taking office to "change things"). Anything Bush does will only be good for 2 months, until the new "boss" takes over, so the market will NOT react to his actions at this point.

I am not going to get into a debate on politics, even though I could quote fact after fact to support anything I might say, because it is a "personal" issue that I find to get to personal when discussed. I will point out the thing that MOST people have overlooked in Obama's comments on "not raising taxes", as it pertains to the Capital Gains Tax. Just for creditability reasons, I am a licensed Stock Broker with my Series 7, 63, 65. Anyway, Obama can keep his word on "not raising the tax" by simply letting the 10% capital gains tax rule expire and then have things revert back to the pre 10% way. This WILL raise taxes on cap gains, but will NOT require him to do ANYTHING to make it so. The old cap gains tax was high and was VERY harmful to "older" investors who want/need to use their investments for living expenses.

No matter which side of the fence you are on in politics, you HAVE to be able to see the facts of what has occurred since the election. If you liked the Clinton years, then this will be a nice time for you coming up (look at the appointments). If you did not like them, well then, you up a creek...

PS. To the gentlemen with the retirement plan question, if you have TIME to recover from the recent downturn in the market (which I believe you said you did) just keep investing MORE NOW than ever. Think of it like this, if you thought a company's stock was a good buy at $30/share (assuming you did your due diligence and looked at the financials), it is REALLY A GOOD BUY at $15/share ehh?? Plus if originally bought 100 shares of it for $3K, and not buy another 100 for $1.5K then you have a total of $4.5 into your 200 shares. In short, you only need the "company" to get back up to $22.5/share to break break even, and anything above that you are MAKING A PROFIT. Take care and good luck.

I say let the Government take over the car industry. Add those workers to the millions that already work for the Government. I'm sure the politicians can run them better than the unions. We will end up with free cars. I like it.

As for oil, I remember Pelosi saying she was going to WEAN us off of oil. Thats no new drilling anywhere. Matter of fact, thats no oil. BO agrees with this because he has said as much. What do you think happens to investors when our leaders make such statements. You can only go by what they say they are going to do. Does anyone remember why Anwar was set aside in the first place? No it wasn't because of the wonderful tundra. It was set aside by Carter to preserve that area so that we could use it's resources when needed. One political party decided to let the environmentalist take over that issue. I don't know how you can blame a party that wants to drill here and drill now and save money. Wouldn't it be nice to have our own oil while we work on other technology and thumb our nose at OPEC? Sounds like a winner to me. Oh thats right, that thinking lost.

As for education, I say we should go back to the kind of teachers I had in school. Right an assignment on the chalk board and start reading a news paper. Aint unions great!

Sounds great until you realize that it is unlikely that the US would see any of that oil. It will go to the highest bidder, most likely China. Better to keep it in reserve until it is really needed and we can put it to use here. Then why do we drill in the first place. We should allow others supply all our needs, just like our Government will supply all of it's citizens needs? Until someone official says it doesn't do any good to pump the oil that God has blessed us with, I say drill here, drill now and save money. I don't care if it only means we pay just one cent less at the pumps, I say bring it on. We all know why we don't drill as much as we should and it has nothing to do with other countries. It has everything to do with this country and those who think they are saving it. Get the environmentalists out of the way and we will be fine. Let the oil companies do their job. Russia recently found a huge reserve of oil and said they would be up and running in a month. Our politicians say it will take 10 yrs to start up in this country, why is that? It's because of all the hoops the evil oil companies have to jump through because of Government mandates and because of all the legal wranglings brought on by the environmentalist. When was the last time our oil rigs were wiped out by a hurricane? What was the impact on the environment from the mess that those damaged oil rigs created? I say instead of acting like my money is the Governments money, they should start trying their hardest to let me keep more of my money. If its a penny at the pump I say bring it on. This idea of a gas tax holiday as being a gimmick is offensive to me. That is my money and I don't like some high and mighty politician telling me I cant have more of my money because he thinks it's a gimmick. I could care less about punishing evil oil companies. They do the work and provide a product that we need, not to mention providing millions of jobs around the world. It would be nice if we would allow them to provide a few million more jobs right here on our land. I don't believe in confiscating profits from anyone for the purposes of perpetuating Marxism. I don't believe the Government has the right to twist their arm or mine, but I do believe we just elected a president who said he is going to use the heavy hand of government to do just that.

One last thought. I see the side affects of more oil wells in our oceans not as potential environmental disasters, but as additional structure for fish and thus more enjoyable fishing experiences. See, everybody wins.
