The farm has crops and they are devistated every year by deer and turkey to a large sum sometimes.

My daughter last year had a bad accident and totaled her car, luckily her and the girl with her were not hurt. One of her senior classmates at Oldham County High was not so lucky when she lost her life on I-71 due to hitting and avoiding a deer.
I've hunted all my life, killed my first squirrel's and rabbits when I was 6 and 7 with my dad. I went hunting in the woods by Myself with a 410 shotgun for squirrels when I was 9 years old. I have never shot game that I had not planned on eating and or giving to someone that was going to eat it.
We trophy manage our farm, what this means is we take only keeper bucks and let the young immature bucks live in order to gain maturity. We shoot and eat and donate to Kentucky Harvest LOTS of doe's. This thins the herd and keeps a nice balance of buck to doe ratio which creates a better hunting evironment.
Deer population and other species as well here in Ky are exploding to dangerous levels in many areas. Hunting is a necessary practice to control animal populations especially for whitetail deer. There are no natural predators of deer in Kentucky other than coyotes and they are really not a threat what so ever to a healthy adult deer. They get a few fawns but not as many as alot of people think.
Your post did have a little Peta sound to it. I don't think you meant it that way, but this is a sensitive area for alot of folks.
wow...other than the part were your daughter had the accident, you pretty much took every word right out of my mouth...weve been managing our farm for about 6 years now and its really starting to pay off,our club(my family)have taken 8 deer this year total and 6 of those were does,so we do our part in thinning that herd also...this year has been really tough though
