Anyone heard anything?????
They closed the doors last weekend.
They're out of business. That's my guess, brother in law stopped in wed to pick up some stuff. They were closed, but a couple people walking around the inventory in the parking lot writing down the inventory said " Not open for business any longer"
Looks like someone is still in trouble according to the article. Thats bad business.
Didn't Plapps just open a new Store south of their Florence Store a while back.... They were on here asking for volunteers to move the boats from Point A to Point B.....?
That was in Bronston/Burnside area of L. Cumb. did not last very long.
The original buisness was Elsmere marine which was in buisness for years and Plapp's purchased it.
I say good ridence!
Many anglers who fished their River Rumble series are ticked!!!We qualified to fish the championship for the shot at winning a new 19ft Skeeter with a Yamaha 150.
10 days before the tournament they postponed the event for what Matt Plapp said was "circumstances out of their control" He said they were moving the event to April and would post a date for the event sometime in November. Now the tournament will never happen!!!
What really has everyone mad is Plapps was supposed to put entry fees from each qualifying tournament into the pay back at the championship, approx $10,000 worth of entry fees "OUR ENTRY FEES". Now we will never get the chance to compete to win this money back. Plapps are crooks and STOLE money from every River Rumble angler as well as the guy that never got his money for them selling "HIS" boat. They had NO right to keep his money and I'm sure he is not the only one in this situation.
I'm sure many more will be filing law suits against those guys.

Grrrr..... That's effin' SHADY
Kevin,
I am not a lawyer BUT, I do think the case the "consignment" sellers have will probably get paid EVENTUALLY. It will take forever for them to see any monies, we all know how insurance companies and lawyers like to keep things going as long as possible, and that is unfortunate for them to say the least. I cannot understand how a owner could actually have the guts to tell someone they used the money (which was NOT theirs) "to pay operating expenses". I am dumb founded by this statement, but even more impressed that the poor person did not punch him out right on the spot upon hearing those words (and I commend them for their ability to control their anger and not do something they might have regreted later).
I REALLY think that those of you who participated in the series are going to just be out you money, tourney and prize. I can't see that getting paid after they take away all the other monies, and I am sure this one person is not the only one who is in this situation from reading this article, that will have "priority" payment over the series, there won't be anything left. The only thing you all might be able to get them on is "theft", which is a terrible thought for a company I heard had been pretty good for 45 years. I would be livid, if I were part of the series myself, but I don't know what your going to be able to do about it to see any of the money at the end of the day, but I hope I am wrong for your sakes.
It stinks to see this happen, and I mean the WHOLE situation (what happened to you, the consignment AND a 45 year old family company go down), to everyone involved but RIGHT IS RIGHT and using someone elses money to "pay operating expenses" is NO RIGHT! Good luck and please let us know what the end result of all this is. Sorry brother.

This doesn't sound like the Plapps that we all grew to know over the last few years. These guys were very involved with local fishing and of course Joe Thomas with his fishing show. It sounds like the economy got the best of them and backed them into a corner. I'm not defending them and from what it sounds like some terrible decisions were made on their part. I hope they get all this figured out because the economy will get right again and they might try and get started one more time. Plapps is an easy name to remember...
I believe they were in trouble prior to the down turn in the economy. Too many stories, too many situations, all alleged of course but now YOU be the judge. Lawrenceburg, Florence and Cumberland.
