    Suggestions For a jig reel...

    Hey Everyone,

I'm in the market for a decent reel I can use with my 7' loomis for flipping, pitching 3/8 - 1/4 oz jigs. I would like to use some of the braided lines out there, at the moment I'm using Stren Sonic Braid, and am liking it more and more. Unfortunately, the old Quantum Energy Titanium I've been using isn't quite made for the braids, just wanting some more experienced opinions out there before I make a purchase.

Thanks in Advance for your help/advice.

Ardent Reels, Totally made in the USA. Has came out with a new flipping/pitching reel made just for braid. It will be available after Jan 09. Bass Pro should have them. They have a 6.3 ratio and the drag is preset at 28 lbs. They just signed Denny Bauer to promote the new reel. Check it out: http://www.ardentoutdoors.com/produc....asp?prodId=52

WW, that looks like its going to be very interesting....that may be just the ticket I'm looking for, it certainly sounds promising from the ad anyway. Thanks a bunch for the suggestion, I would most definitely never heard of it otherwise. Do you (or anyone else reading this) have any reels made by Ardent ? I don't know alot about them.

    Thanks

    James

I'm not any help to hoghunter, in the process of updating my old equipment myself (late 80's and 90's vintage) when pistol grip was popular along with the old fenwick flippin stick.I am wanting an ambassador 4500C4 reel to toss a crankbait and a spinnerbait with....Wondering if anybody has the reel and wish they had bought something else.... From what I've read the ardent is a nice reel a little too pricey for my wifes budget. I use a Quantum ACS/Loomis (old) and Curado/Cumara combos. The Curado is about as much as I want to spend on a reel, I will not go back to a Quantum, but did consider the Phleuger line (president I believe) also a nice reel for the money.

HogHunter, I have an Ardent XS, 6.2 to 1 gear ratio that I use for medium sized crankbaits and I LOVE IT. It is very smooth, very adjustable to condtions (wind, lure weight, etc) and it casts a lure much farther than any other reel I have. i have put other reels on the same rod with the same lure just to compare. They are kind of expensive but they are AMERICAN MADE IN AMERICA BY AMERICAN WORKERS and are well worth the price.
