all i have ever used is 4500's..you can't buy a tougher reel for the money, mine are well used and all i have done is changed the pawl and clean every year..some are 10 years old..they are a little heavier..I'm not any help to hoghunter, in the process of updating my old equipment myself (late 80's and 90's vintage) when pistol grip was popular along with the old fenwick flippin stick.I am wanting an ambassador 4500C4 reel to toss a crankbait and a spinnerbait with....Wondering if anybody has the reel and wish they had bought something else.... HogHunter, I have an Ardent XS, 6.2 to 1 gear ratio that I use for medium sized crankbaits and I LOVE IT. It is very smooth, very adjustable to condtions (wind, lure weight, etc) and it casts a lure much farther than any other reel I have. i have put other reels on the same rod with the same lure just to compare. They are kind of expensive but they are AMERICAN MADE IN AMERICA BY AMERICAN WORKERS and are well worth the price.
