Quantum Energy PT Bait Casting Reel

Does anyone have experience with and care to offer an opinion on the Quantum Energy PT Baitcasting Reel? I am considering an additional reel and Gander Mountain has them on sale for $99.95.

One of the best reels I have ever used. The energy's are very smooth and can handle just about anything you put it through. They are a little heavy compared to some but the performance out-weights that. They are cheap right now because company's are getting rid of them for the 09 model that is about to come out which are 2 onces lighter. BPS has been sold out for a couple months now and are supposed to get the new ones in anyday now.

Re: Quantum Energy PT Bait Casting Reel

I love my energy's. I like them as well as my curado's. They take a little more getting used to than some other bait casters. They are a little more sensitive to minor adustments brakes, and especially the cast control knob than some other reels. But once you get the hang of adjusting for different lure weights they are near flawless. Most reels I adjust the casting/spool tension knob so that the lure falls slowly and the spool stops slowly once it hits the ground - however, the energy will almost always overspool if set up that loose. I almost have my tension tight enough that the lure will not fall without bouncing the rod tip. I haven't lost any distance this way, and it casts farther than my other reels with a 1/4 oz. lure (Curado's, chronarch's, Revo STX). I use it just as texas rigged reel, because I usually only throw that with 1/4 oz weight - It is my best reel for that weight.

The weight is my biggest draw to the others. It is almost 10 oz., when compared to Curado 100's and chronarch's it is a beast. I agree the performance almost makes up for it. I can't wait to play with one of the new ones. If they are anything like the old ones but lighter - I will have to try one or two of those out.
