What is the most odd catch you have had?

This thread is great! Ive thought of some more.

Last summer my dad hooked a loon with a gotcha while fishing for spanish macks in FL. I was drunk enough to try and use a landing glove to grab his beak and get him undercontrol. Long story short, loons are ALOT bigger when they are up close and MEAN. Im glad I didnt leave that battle missing some fingers or with life long scars! Luckily after awhile the lure pulled and bird was fine.

I have a secret summer saugar hole up a creek in well into OldhamCo, not weird I guess but I was surprised to find it!

Ive caught bullfrogs after throwing platics up on a bank and drank it in the water. Them frogs will hit and eat anything!

That's how I get my frogs now, to heck with staying up all night swatting at skeeters. They fight pretty good to. I can catch bigguns with a rod and reel and some texas rigged soft plastics.

Barge ropes fight like big flatheads...That's all I got to say about that...lol

Lol i second that,i was in front of the dam a few months ago and had a hold of what i thought was a monster,i would reel in for 20 or 30 feet and it would stop and go back out.After about 10 minutes and being dog tired i finally figured out it wasnt a fish but an anchor line or barge rope,I never did see it though but by the feel of it i figured it out.With that much dam going and it giving me some and then taking it back,i thought i had a beast.I was whooped and dissapointed.

Thats a mellanistic bass! Its a genetic condition. I would pay well over $1,000 to add that fish to my collection! If you ever catch another keep it!

I've caught big flatheads while in cat tournies that regurgitated giant river rats as well as a host of most all other fish, walleye, saugar, white bass etc.

To this day I'm puzzled over a fish I caught at Markland a couple years back while fishing for jacks - it looked like a slim striper but it had rows of teeth like a shark?? It wasn't a goldeye; I'm familar with them. I wish I would have kept it instead of cutting it up for bait b/c I truely think it was some rare prehistoric fish...

5 lbs GOLDFISH not koi on a black spinnerbait. I live on a 15 acre lake and it must have been someone's pet. The world record is 9 lbs (I think). I wish I had a picture.

Ya didn't have to get personal now lowrider...LoL. Just kidding. It is amazing the things that are regurgitated out of these big cats while in transit. I've had some leave 3 and 4# buffalo in my tank that you know by the stinch they have been there for a while. And fishhound I here you on that gar.. it seems the only fish that will hang around a gar is a flat, I think they feed underneath the gar taking advantage of the maimed [spell]or disoriented fish that get away. And John, after a 30 minute fight I mounted my barge rope in front of my house for all to see...for I was just as proud and worn out by any fish landing that thing...lol ..Chuck

1) I was fishing at a small farm pond one fall and hooked into a fish that battled for a while and when I finally pulled up on the bank, it was a fish I had never seen before. I was sold that it was a Japanese Snakehead for years until I joined this forum and found out that it must have been a large bowfin. How it got into this small farm pond is beyond me?

2) Caught a 7.5lb, 27" brown trout out of a little creek called trammel creek in Allen county. That was a shocker!!!

3) Caught a 40+lb snapper on a 71/2" culprit worm. That was fun! Needless to say, I let him keep the worm!

4) Caught a gigantic fresh water oyster at a local lake, my hook was stuck right inbetween it's two shells, weird?

5) Caught myself straight through my ear on a windy day, fly fishing on the Green River Wyoming with a large Cicada fly. That hurt.

My oldest son caught a 2 foot long 2X4 out of Taylorsville Lake...We just knew he had hooked a new state record the way it was fighting going side to side and taking out the drag.......He was excited for sure with the battle......
