This past spring my son, his girlfriend and I were fishing for sauger and crappie in the KY River from the bank and I snagged a huge musky (guessing over 40") in the dorsal fin with an 1/8 oz jig on 8 lb line. I played it to the bank several times, and even coaxed it out the bushes once before the jig pulled thru. I don't think it ever realized what was going on because i was pulling it sideways real slow. When it would realize it was near the surface it would thrash it's huge tail and go about 30 feet out and sit right on the bottom, and then I would gently pull it back in. At one point my son suggested that he jump in the river when it was close to the bank and wrestle him in. I strongly discouraged that idea! That has been my only live musky encounter so far that I know of (I have had several large fish break off in the river but never saw them before they were gone).
