Call humminbird, give them your boat model and they will email you tranducer mounting locations. I did't want to use the jack-plate mounting so I ultimately had to get a shoot thru transducer for high speed depth readings.

I will do that, thanks offdtop.![]()
I too am ready to take the plunge. My only question is the pre-installed maps (BPS price is about $200) What do you get with the pre-installed maps??
Offdtop, I have on eof these and was told that you can not use a shoot thru hull transducer becuase it needs to be in the water? Is this not the case. That is why I put mine up front and used the trolling motor mount. Thanks, Marty
Whoever told you was half wrong, sort of. they make a shoot thru "puck" style, you have to get a "Y" splitter cable and your unit picks up from both so if the "side imaging" transducer looses depth at higher speeds then it uses the shoot thru. Yes the "side imaging" transducer has to be in the water but you use a shoot thru in conjunction with it to solve this problem. Mine is on a Ranger 520VS and they sent me pictures on where to mount the Side imaging t-ducer, either on the jackplate or on the boat itself - i opted for the boat because I fish the Ohio river alot in the creeks and you bump way too many stumps
i have the 1197 in the front of my boat with the mount on the trolling motor. it is amazing what this thing can do it is awsome. the only thing is if you make quick moves it will put a hump in the screen for a second but pics right up. and you can also put your trolling motor in the water and idol and it gives a clear reading to if you want to scan an area quicker. it will take some adjusting and playing with it till you get your settings how you like them but once you do it is the coolest thing ever. any quistions pm me if you want.

i did not get the preloaded maps the navionics chip gives better map readings i think.
Ok guys, Santa brought me one of these (too bad he used my bank account to do it). I was thinking i could probably hook it up myself, but I'm afraid i will jack something up lol. Do any of you guys have any suggestions on who may be able to help me hook this thing up correctly. I have no problem paying to have it done, I'm just not sure who to talk to about it.
Any suggestions ?
As Always, Thanks in Advance.![]()
I was told that the humminbirds (side finder series) were not well suited for water 10' and less? Would any of you say that other than seeing the bottom so clearly that the units have put more fish in the boat? have you found structure that held fish in new places. I am on the fence about getting one help me out, do you catch more fish now
because of the unit.

I was fishing in a tournament and I was in the back of a bay back this past spring, I was in 6 to 8 ft of water -now mind you this was within 3 weeks of buying my unit, I was watching the graph as I SLOWLY motored towards the back and I was seeing the riprap/rocks and I noticed 3 white objects I stopped jumped up front and casted directly to where the images came from and caught a 3 pounder, I fished on up about 50 yards and was idling out and there in the same place was 2 white images, saying to myself and my partner "no frigging way" he jumped up tossed a shaky head to the same spot and caught a 2-1/2 lbdr and guess what there was still 1 image on the screen -BOOM we finished the limit and the white images were gone!!
you decide..................... we took third place.
