Whoever told you was half wrong, sort of. they make a shoot thru "puck" style, you have to get a "Y" splitter cable and your unit picks up from both so if the "side imaging" transducer looses depth at higher speeds then it uses the shoot thru. Yes the "side imaging" transducer has to be in the water but you use a shoot thru in conjunction with it to solve this problem. Mine is on a Ranger 520VS and they sent me pictures on where to mount the Side imaging t-ducer, either on the jackplate or on the boat itself - i opted for the boat because I fish the Ohio river alot in the creeks and you bump way too many stumps

). I was thinking i could probably hook it up myself, but I'm afraid i will jack something up lol. Do any of you guys have any suggestions on who may be able to help me hook this thing up correctly. I have no problem paying to have it done, I'm just not sure who to talk to about it.
