I use my Lowrance 5200c unit on my boat and on the road as my GPS for my truck....Works great and the detail of the roads and whatever else you want to show up along the way is nice. I just had to add the streets and highways to the main info board using my Map Create & Mapping Program......![]()
Lowrance advertises their XOG unit as a on and off road or marine unit. It looks like an automotive gps, and has the sd slot for the map card. It receives high reviews from most people but i've not been able to clarify whether it is water resistant or waterproof. At this point i'd have my doubts about using it on an open cockpit boat in a blinding rainstorm, but I could be wrong.
I bet their 2009 lineup will have a nice one in there that will fit your needs. I think they are going to incorporate touchscreen technology, which makes it a ton easier for car uses.
I've got a Lowrance XOG! I like it alot. It will accept SD map cards, and the built-in turn by turn directions works great. I really like mine, I haven't had it in the rain so can't give any advice about that and it is a touch screen. Let me know if you have any question the XOG. Also saw that BPS has it on sale.
BTW, its also a MP3 player...
