Re: Ask Elwood about my 4LB line....

He probably meant that was the best brown one he had ever caught out of the Ky river, but believe me he's caught a ton of them better than that out of the Elkhorn. Now you aren't gonna catch a bunch of 4 and 5lber's but there are fish caught out of that creek that size. The first and only time I ever waded Elkhorn with Billy and APB I caught a nice 18 1/4 inch smallmouth that probably would have weighed a little over three pound. However that day we caught them till our arms was tired and many of them were 14 to 15 inch fatties. Now another thing is using light tackle and the fact that those creek fish are flat out honery and mean they put up one heck of a fight. I like smacking them ole bigguns too, I to have a bunch over five pound and I don't even have a guess how many between 4 and 5 I have, it would be a BUNCH. But that creek thing can be awful fun if you hit it right. You are correct though we all ahve our strengths and favorites. I've got riverat12 trying to make a pro catfisherman out of me and it's fun. I've got APB trying to make a striper fisherman out of me and it's alot of fun to. But nothing and I mean nothing will ever make me forget about my ole brown fish.

After a couple of hours of nothing, I was wishing that a 5lb turd would float downstream and bump into my jig. I would have even taken a 1lb turd full of corn by noon.

If you saw how thick the ice was that we broke trying to get back up the 100 yards or so from the river into Elkhorn to the ramp you would have thought it was the North Pole. I know the ice was 3/4 inch thick and was solid from bank to bank. This was severely thicker than when we put in for it was only about a 1/4 inch or so and defineately go thicker as the day went on. After we got my beast on the trailer and up the "Ramp" there was 2 huge pieces stuck on top of the trailer under the boat about 3' by 4' and 3/4 inch thick. I do know I was flat out Cold and I had several layers on top and bottom.

Yeah Marv, it got cold on the river. We actually ran a lot of banks. Most of the times I had been on the river was in warmer months and had never really had time to scout possibly F-n-F holes. That's what we did. We should've stayed down the around the mouth of the Elkhorn. We didn't fish it all in the creek itself. We could've in spots but I don't think it would've been productive.

Mhall, Yeah it was the best I've(me personally) caught on the river thus far. Usually the river, in past yrs hasn't been fisherman freindly. And I've not had a lot opportunites to get out on it. There's actually some pools upriver from this one that has more bluffier, deeper, and rockier river channel banks.
I think the river is uncharted water for some winter time fishermen.
