Dang Billy looks like you are fishing on the north pole in that outfit.![]()
If you saw how thick the ice was that we broke trying to get back up the 100 yards or so from the river into Elkhorn to the ramp you would have thought it was the North Pole. I know the ice was 3/4 inch thick and was solid from bank to bank. This was severely thicker than when we put in for it was only about a 1/4 inch or so and defineately go thicker as the day went on. After we got my beast on the trailer and up the "Ramp" there was 2 huge pieces stuck on top of the trailer under the boat about 3' by 4' and 3/4 inch thick. I do know I was flat out Cold and I had several layers on top and bottom.
Yeah Marv, it got cold on the river. We actually ran a lot of banks. Most of the times I had been on the river was in warmer months and had never really had time to scout possibly F-n-F holes. That's what we did. We should've stayed down the around the mouth of the Elkhorn. We didn't fish it all in the creek itself. We could've in spots but I don't think it would've been productive.
Mhall, Yeah it was the best I've(me personally) caught on the river thus far. Usually the river, in past yrs hasn't been fisherman freindly. And I've not had a lot opportunites to get out on it. There's actually some pools upriver from this one that has more bluffier, deeper, and rockier river channel banks.
I think the river is uncharted water for some winter time fishermen.
