Wolf Creek Dam

Anyone been near the dam lately? I was wondering if they are releaseing water? Thinking about a trip down there this weekend. Thanks Fred

I went over the Dam Friday afternoon and the water was LOW. I talked to Fred McClintock this morning about the river striper season and he said that there were several parts of the Cumberland River just below the dam that was down to a ripple. Maybe with all this rain they will push some water thru to help the situation but it does not look good.

Check the TVA site. 4000 CFS today. It has been awhile since we've seen this. No wading for awhile. Algae has built up so maybe this will blow some down.

Thanks guys. I want water coming out. I have pretty good luck there during the winter fishing for eyes and sauger close to the dam. I usually don't go until Jan or Feb but I really have a need to fish this weekend!

Speaking of eyes and sauger...me and a buddy of mine went to the C-River this past mon-tues trout fishing, and ended up catching some sauger and a couple really nice eyes. This was my first experience catching either on the C-River. Is it usually good for those two species? If so, what's the best way to target them? Just curious. Thanks.

This past Monday, we stopped and fished just a bit at the dam. When we came up, the last of the three horns went off advising everyone that they were getting ready to let some water out. There were two guys in a jonboat no more than 15-yards from the dam, far left side (west, turbine side). I heard a yell, and when I turned into the direction of the yell, the boat way riding a 4-foot high wave. The front of the boat was facing away from the dam and the guy in the front was hanging on to the sides for dear life. If that boat got hit with that wave broadside, they surely would have been in the water and their boat flipped. As it was, they were very lucky and dry. Don't mess with the horns. Get out of there or pay the consequences.

By the way, two other guys fishing from the bank stood there and watched the wave continue down the bank until it soaked both of their feet. They seemed surprised, ever though the watched the wave continue toward them from quite a distance. Just makes you shake your head.

With the goal of 680', and all the rain eastern kentucky received this week, my bet is they'll start pulling more...

Funny! We were there too, a buddy and I. We watched the same boat go for a ride. I thought I was going to have to pull some people out of the river. I'm glad I didn't have to, that water is cold! I was in the process of crossing the river, and I had just gotten to the other side and started fly fishing when the siren went off. Just my luck! It always goes off when I cross over to the other side. I knew I had a few minutes, so I didn't panic. Made it back in plenty of time. I was surprised that they generated a little, and it was just a little...the river rose only about two feet or so. I hadn't seen generation there for ever! I'm glad they did, cause it caused my buddy and I to move down to were hatchery creek spills in the main river...and we proceeded to catch some of the biggest fish I've ever caught at the C-River. As soon as the extra flow stopped, so did the awesome fishing.

It is GREAT when you can catch the river "just right". I've done that a couple times, and the fishing can be FANTASTIC.

You said it. I've had some days were I couldn't stop catching fish, and nice ones at that. Then I have days where I can't get anything to bite. The joys of fishing! Can be a frustrating sport! Later.

Fred you might want to wait a bit,lake came up 4 ft and they are running 7500cfm, will be white water for sure at the dam. Fred me and you need to hook up for a fnf trip too Cumberland.
