Just curious but do the trout have successful spawns on the river? I was under the impression that the VAST majority of trout in the river came from stocking and not natural reproduction. It will be nice to have some of that algae removed and washed down river. I worry about one thing though; I believe that many of the spawning trout have laid their eggs on gravel beds on the main river now that the river has been running low for so long. I worry that all this water will really damage the future trout population. Before, when the river consistently ran more water, the trout would head for tributaries to lay eggs in a safe and more stable environment. I have noticed now, after three years of low water levels, that there are very few trout heading up these tributaries to spawn. I fear that they have spawned on the main river. These eggs will be destroyed by this high water. I hope that I'm wrong, and that all will be just fine......but I worry that I may be right. Just a concerned fisherman that loves his CR.
I will stay clear of the CR for awhile now, which will be hard to do after having had such a wonderful trip just last week. It will take awhile for this high water to drop and for the river to re-stabilize. Until then, Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year! See on the CR in '09!
