Let's see what the "Chosen One" does. I don't think he will drill, he will say it is out of his hands. It would be a good way for to get all of his skeptics on his side.

    I agree with you TimT

I wish we had Leaders that actually wanted to do right by the US citizens and not their own agenda. Even if it upsets some countries that don't like us or get millions from us. Will Barry and his Administration be different? Doubtful but let's see.

I agree, and it is a LOAN not a handout. I expect the taxpayers to be paid back in full. If they cannot guarentee that, no $$.

It will make a difference only if that oil goes to the US. There is no guarentee that it will. I do not see trashing our environment so that others can profit from it. I also see that oil as an insurance policy for the US. If OPEC and other nations were to cut us off cold turkey, then we would at least have that stuff to count on for emergency purposes until we could get something else going. Use it now and we do not have that leverage and are more at the mercy of those who have oil.

    Re: Opec = Thieves

I noticed Friday when oil hit $34 per barrel that gas went up in my area .20 per gallon at some stations. Now that they (OPEC) is cutting back again I just wonder if our gutless politicians in Washington will continue to give wheat, corn and other food stuff to them at rock bottom prices. In my opinion the OPEC countries should be forced to learn how to eat sand and wash it down with a cup full of crude. When they are made to realize that their survival also depends on the countries that use their oil to supply them with food, then they might (very doubtful) realize that their survival also depends on the western world.

No no no we want people to love the U.S. again remember? We are the bullies on the block that do nothing but start wars and side with Israel.

The Libs said it over and over during the campaign. Something along the lines of us not having friends in the world except Britian and Israel. Barry wanted us to invest into our infrastructure like China! I laughed when I heard that but in the back of my mind I'm thinking.....wait a minute is he talking about our future?? How much will that cost?

Sorry, we may not like it, but that's not being a thief. That's called running a business. The real issue is our own dependence upon oil when we've known for 30-40 years it was a bad thing but haven't done ANYTHING about it.

Also, in reference to the term you used, were you aware that less than half of the OPEC member nations actually come from the middle east?

I guess it's just easier to pick on someone different than ourselves rather than admit that we are the real problem.

You know I agree we are our own worse enemy sometimes. I also think that gas prices began to soar after 9/11 to. Check back and see if there wasn't a distinct slow to moderate rise after that happened. Was 9/11 our fault???? If you say yes, you and I are through talking. Was it Gorge Bush's fault, if you say yes, you need a drug test. Did the radical muslim RAGHEADS cause 9/11? If you say no then you need a drug test and a labotomy. Do I think all middle eastern people are the same and all of them hate the United States, well I'm not sure?? There are probably some that are good people and don't think this way. But excuse me after 9/11 I seen way to many clips and heard to much press about them jumping with joy because a bunch of infidels was killed and oh yea alot of them living and working here did it to. Am I a hater no not really, but I don't trust alot of them and keep them at a distance if at all possible. I reserve that right as a God fearing, hard working true blue American taxpayer. Are you ever going to change me by constantly pointing out that occassionally I don't use the exact politically correct terms.......UH- NO, so quit trying, lol. Oh and one more thing if you honestly think there has been and is no price gouging of any sort that has ever, or is going on with the oil market and gas prices, well then dude, I'm back to the drug testing thing, wake up and smell the coffee.

    Re: Opec = Thieves

I believe all of the blame for 9/11 lies squarely on the head of the terrorists and those who supported them. I've never wavered on that. Whether we did enough to prevent it is irrelevant to me. Even if we had completely open and lax security, it doesn't justify an act of terrorism.

But...I don't believe in the concept price gouging. I believe in true free market economies and I believe companies should charge whatever they want to charge. The fact is that we're stuck paying their prices because we have done nothing to transition away from that dependence.

Also, gas prices did a lot more soaring after Katrina than they did after 9/11 unless my recollection is innacurate. We had low $2 gas before Katrina. We have middle to low $1 now, though so pretty much the whole argument doesn't hold water anyway.

And my bigger point was that the middle east is only less than half of OPEC so to blame the middle east (using whatever term you want) is misguided.
