    Laid Off

Well it happened to me, our whole estimating department just got the axe today, they say its temporary until the construction picks up, which could be never, so I am without a job right here at Christmas. I can draw unemployemnt, but I dont even know how much that is, probaly not enough to pay all my bills, but hopefully enough where I can keep my house. They can come get my vehicle I guess, and the boats payed for, and hopefully I will not have to sell it, but if it gets to bad, I probaly will have to. I know with this economy nobody is hiring, so Christmas is going to be great this year. If anyone needs a good electrical estimator, please let me know. I wont be on here as much, but just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, and please if you have an extra prayer in you, could you say one for me and my family, because I thinks its getting ready to get rough. Bob

Sorry Bob for your misfortune. You said it right in today's economy there is no telling what is next. I just said a prayer for you and your family in hopes that whatever door opens up your way its much better than the one that just closed. If you ever find yourself without a boat and want to go just send me a pm and we will have to hook up. In the meantime, I hope your family has a wonderful Christmas under the circumstances and a Happy New Year. Elnut

Thank you very much, I know a lot of people have it worse than me, so I am thankful for what I do have, and hopefully something will come up before it gets to bad.

Thanks, the construction industry is as slow as I have ever seen it, in the 20 some years I have been in it, we are basically being layed off because there is absolutely nothing to bid right now, nothing. I hope it will pick back up after the first of the year, if not its really going to be bad. What type of work do you do in construction? Thanks again everyone, I really apreciate the prayers and kind words.

    Re: Laid Off

Sorry to hear about that, prayers headed your way for the holidays. My wife and I went through this over the summer. She was in the financial services industy and was let go in the beginning of May and was not able to find something until the end of August. She ended up in a different field of work. One thing that helped us was sitting down and making a list of where every dollar we made went from the house, cars, cell phone, lunches, etc.. We were able to take her unemployment check and cuts from the list to make the mortgage payment and not go into savings to get the money. It was a tough summer with no extra money especially with how high gas was.

    Bob,
Sorry to hear about this at any time especially now.
How far are you willing to travel? I know some E.C.'s in Lexington and Bowling Green which I deal with daily or monthly I can ask around, maybe get some contacts for you. As a matter of fact we have worked with Engineers who design in your area. Who did you work for? P.M. me if you feel it's too private.

Sorry to hear about the lay-off, it could happens to any of us in construction at any time right now. The estimators in our office that were layed off, got jobs in Atlanta and say that they are very busy. Just thought I would let you know that. Good luck and Merry Christmas.
