Re: Falls of The Ohio Fishing

For the hybrids/stripe I like to use the lightest line as possible so i can cast as far as possible. Sometime an extra 20ft on cast can mean the difference between catching fish and fishing.

I go as light as 8lb and rarely over 12lb, I use the heavier line for when Im tossing giant swim baits.

Fighting a 12lb hybrid in white water on 8lb line puts a tickle in my pickle everytime!

    Magic bait?! Whats that? haha

I usually use those Storm living eye or what ever they are called swim baits. I use them up to the 5" size. You can slingem a mile and the big boys cant resist a large bait like that.

Ive been down there before shoulder to shoulder with people and catching fish just cause I could sling my bait out a bit further. Sometimes people get frustrated when you have a fish on and start near the locks and end up at the interpretive center to land a fish and the whole time you are going over and under other peoples lines. But hey, Ive spent many hours fishing the piers in the Gulf during the cobia run and if you can manage the angry mobs down there you can manage the friendly folk at the river!

With this talk about light line, does KY or IN recognize line class records? Now that I got a boat, it may be fun to see what kind of fish you can get on some serious light line! I know the world record hybrid caught in arkansas was by a crappie fisherman with a 4lb outfit so it it can be done!

I catch quite a few hybrids off the docks at Rough River on 4lb line with small inline spinners. Loads of fun. Not much size to them, usually 16-20 inches but you can't beat the fight of a hybrid.

    care to share the secret????

me and a few freinds were down there sunday on the fourth and no one we talked to had caught anything and we didnt either. even the regulars walked down without a rod and reel just too see if anything was biting.

18 pound striper is a nice catch down there at the falls congrats on that one.

hotdog, cherry koolaid, garlic, rotten chicken blood.

That's the stinkiest crap I have ever smelt before, but it sure does work.
