    Question Need help quick!

Ok fellas, this may be a shot in the dark, but i am trying to find some info about fishing in Cancun Mexico.

I am leaving for Cancun in 3 weeks to go on my honeymoon, and the bride to be has agreed to let me do some fishing while I am there. Here are a couple of my questions:

    1) Would even be worth my time to bring a surf rod to fish from the beach or a rod to maybe hit up a jetty or pier if there are any there?

    2) Are there any good charters or party boats around that area I could check out?

Remember, I am on a budget! Thanks for any info you can give me.

i would look into a charter because from the stories i have heard about cancun and stuff is that you are safe as long as u are on the island of cancun but its pretty rough on the main land....if i couldnt get a charteri would just picup a fishin pole at pawn shop i done that one year at myrtle beach cause they wouldnt let me take my poles and i fished off the pier i ended up hooking a shark that was as big a love seat... and caught a bunch of baby sharks and them fish that look like bluegills but therefins have way more potent stuff.... i also just picked up what tackle ineeded i went out and watched the people the first night to see what they had and were doing then i bought the stuff.... plus at the end of the trip i just went to another pawn shop and pawned the rod back... i got my money back out of the rod.....

Hey. I have fished Mexican and Central American waters for quite some time. In 3 weeks you will be right in the middle of Snook, Bonefish, Tarpon, and Permit paradise. Ascencion Bay is a top-notch bonefishing destination. Snook will be staging in the lagoons and mangroves as will tarpon in the 30-40 lb range, although larger fish to 75 lb can be found. I wouldn't even sweat bringing your own gear. Guides are plentiful, they'll know what works, and they'll have the equipment to do the job. Alot of guides market to fly-fisherman, but most all of them will also spin fish. Since you're trying to kill two birds with one stone (I know what it's like, the wife and I fished during our honeymoon too) my suggestion is to hire a flats guide for a full day trip and chase anything that swims. Like I said, you should have a shot at 4 species of fish from that one area. See what your hotel can set up or suggest for you, but also do a little foot-work on your own to compare to the costs they will give you.
    Here's a good start:

I have fished there several times and the fishing is good. If you get on a share charter is best the boat will usually hold around 6-7 people and you split it with other guys that want to go just ask at the marinas, they will set you up with other guys to split the cost.
Each time I was there we fished for barracuda and I can tell you it was a blast they pull like crazy and you catch a lot of them. I could not tell you the charter service name but there are several there that should be good.

Last year we vacationed in Gulf Shores which is in the Gulf of Mexico as well. I bought a cheap spincasting outfit and waded the surf. I caught probably 50-100 fish a day and the only expense was the bait. Plus the wife was right there tanning, so we both were enjoying what we wanted to do but were together as well. Pompano and Bluefish are probably the tastiest fish I have ever eaten. Saltwater fish put up a great fight on light tackle.

Ha HA Ha...I got permission to go fishing on my honeymoon as well...Biggest mistake I could have made...Wife then pouted all evening like a spoiled brat...Saying I liked to fish more than spend time with her on our honeymoon... Matt to save face and keep the airwaves nice and smooth.... *** DON'T GO FISHING *** Stay with her and let her enjoy the company of your presence.............. But if you do go fishing, hope you catch a biggun......

    Re: Need help quick!

The wife and I fished in Cancun, we took a half day trip with one of those shared charters. There were 4 others on board with us and we caught lots of fish for a half day trip. We left from a small fishing charter marina sort of on the end of the strip in Cancun. Took taxi there and bus back to hotel. The wind got up and the sea got really bad, our trip back was a adventure, everyone on board was soaked. We caught red snapper and the hotel your staying at will probably even cook them up for you if you ask. They even stock the boat with Corona. It is a good time and would recommend. Let us know how you did when you get back.
