    Re: BFL vs. Local Tourneys

Have never fished a BFL. Have heard that they are some of the best run tournaments around. However it is my opinion that unless you are in a Ranger, fish something else.

I wouldn’t fish the BFLs unless your looking for recognition or wanting to take your fishing to the next level. You stand to make money in your buddy tournaments your lucky to break even in the BFLs. It's not worth buying a Ranger just to fish the BFLs you get a little extra pocket change if you do good in them. If your going to fish a Sten or higher I would recommend buying a Ranger, but if not all contingencies are, is smoke and mirrors in the puppy dog leagues...

    Re: BFL vs. Local Tourneys

What has happened to bass fishing. What happened to days of competing in tournaments just for the competition. Now days anglers are worried if they are going to make any money fishing this tournament or that. Usually the guys worried about if they are going to cash a check ruin it for the rest of us. Those guys are the ones that turn people away from bass fishing. The money fuels the ego problem. There is nothing wrong with an ego, but one that can't fit it the boat with you, it is wrong. I have fished competitively since I was eight years old. My father and I fished local tournaments. I don't think I would take my eight year old son to a fish in a tournament now days. There are guys out there that put forth a very bad image for our youngsters. As always 90% of the guys and gals out there are great competitors and would go out of there way to help you. There's always that 10% that have to make a scene. I am here to tell everyone a fast new boat will not win tournaments, it's the man in the boat! It seems every tournament I go to turns into a boat show. Everyone is showing off and losing focus on what we are there for, TO FISH! Often I have noticed its the guy that doesn't have the new boat that does well in tournament. As for what tournament to fish BFL or Renegade or tournaments like it? Both tournaments are going to have "wolfpacks" as I call them, a bunch of guys that think they're pros. These guys will cut you off fishing down a bank. **** near run you over running down the lake. These guys will not speak to you or even say hello for that matter. I am not kidding this has happened repeated times. I guess that's what I get for trying to be friendly. If your looking to get your name out there and have a place where potential sponsors can easily access your results from past tournaments, I would suggest BFL. If your looking for something closer to home and the ability to fish with your buddy I would suggest tournaments like Renegade. Once again, just ignore the bad apples and have a good time. Don't lose sight of what you are there for, to have a good time. Not everyone is going to be a pro. Those that are need a lesson in good manners. Hope this helps
