    Ohio River

Does anybody fish the Ohio River in the maysville area.......i'm about 40 miles from there and I have heard some talk about it being a decent place to cast a line.....i guess you would go back up a creek a bit.....anybody know where a fella might get a topo map of the area? Have never been a river fisherman but most lakes are a couple hours or more drive for me.

Don't know about your area, but around the Louisville area. The fishing is great....

Here is a link to go to in order to get the map of the Ohio River you might need. Just search through the links to the one you need for your area. Then after you find your area....Print off the pages or complete section of the river you need and will be fishing.

The link above is for the McAlpine Locks area, but you might need a different area.

    Re: Ohio River

I've been to the area a few times, I personally go across the bridge to Aberdeen to dock, its free, and I think they charge at the maysvile dock nowadays.

From the Aberdeen dock there is a little creek on the right side of the river (going up), just at the lime plant. I've caught a few bass there, i think its called cabin creek.

A lot of people fish the main river there also.

    Good Luck.

Thanks fellas...I use to fish the lakes some years ago but cave run is the only one that is not a three hour drive for me.......wasn't so bad when i was 30 or 40 but at 62 I need some places that don't take all my energy just driving to them.

Re: Ohio River Maysville Ohio Brush Creek

I really like Ohio Brush Creek Just up river from Maysville KY, Aberdeen and Manchester Ohio. There is a Ramp right on the creek at the mouth of the Ohio. The creek is navigable about 3 or 4 miles off the river. Also there is an big island on the River. The south side has a lot of logs and current. My biggest Striper, Flathead and Largemouth all have come from that area. I even have a couple of smallmouth from there.

This is on the Ohio Side.

mapquest: (use the aerial view on the map top right hand corner)
17490 US Highway 52, Manchester Ohio

    Re: Ohio River

i'm new to the board also. I like to put in at the maysville ramp. Cabin creek is a good spot in the fall. Another good spot on the river is a hot water discharge on the left side before you get to the creek. There's some nice white bass in the warm water.
    Good luck

    Re: Ohio River

Yes Hll, I believe there is an accessible ramp just across the bridge there in falmouth. I have never used it, but it looks to be in decent enough shape.

If you happen to venture out that way, let me know what it's like.

    Thanks.

I will do that......i like to find a pretty day and get on the bike to take a look-see trip
to the places i haven't been to before i take the boat.....there are a couple ramps there close to cynthiana that are fair launching areas in that river...i'm just getting into this type of fishing after being out of the game for 10 or 12 years...thanks

    Re: Ohio River

Fish the South Fork Licking River area near Berry Kentucky. There is a boat ramp on the river there. Plus, excellent wade fishing. I believe it is 1032 west off of US27 north of Cynthiana. The ramp in Falmouth is shallow, especially now with the river as low as it is.
