    Re: flukes

Flukes are my FAVORITE bait to fish! They work great from early spring to late fall. And they work really well in the dead of winter, fished slow in farm ponds.

I never use a weight while fishing them, I always just vary the size of my hook to make it sink faster or slower.

The pearl white color is my favorite, and I have probably caught more fish during the summer months off flukes than any other bait. They are unmatched if you can find a school of bass chasing baitfish actively.

I've always been lucky with white flukes. I've fished with a #8 bullet weight with a leader. You have to be careful not to break line but the bite is awesome fun. You might have trouble bouncing it off the bottom at times, but I find it is worth it.

you can cut the head off of a nail and put the head part into the nose of the fluke....makes the bait sink nose down and gives it a very erratic action

Sorry, I left out the "how to fish" part.

Like I said, I don't use a weight, so I fish them with a spinning outfit. I fish around tree tops, docks, and any othe rstructure I can find. All I do is cast it out, let it sink to the depth I want (without the weight it is a SLOW fall, which I think makes it better), and give it 3-5 fast twitches and then let it fall again. You would be suprised at the amount of action that little bait creates

    Re: flukes

the fluke is one of my favorite baits to throw. when fish are suspending feeding on bait fish is a good time to throw one. also in spring when males are guarding a nest is a real good time to. as far as fishing it with a weight i have never fished it with one but i have had people tell me they like to fish it on a carolina rig. i will use a 3/0 or 4/0 red hook just my prefrence i fill that a little bit of red flash from the hook looks like a bleeding wonded bait fish. and i fish it on flourocarbon 8 to 10 pounds to get it to run a little deeper. i try to keep it to where i can barley see it or not even see it at all . and you need to have a pause in your cadence. like (jerk-jerk-pause-jerk-jerk-pause) but work on diffrent ones till the fish tell you what they whant. my three fav. colors are rainbow ice, pearl, and green pumpkin. but you can also throw a slug-o to wich i think is better then a fluke when the fish whant a bigger profile. i start out throwing a slug-o in 6inch then if they dont whant that then i down size to the fluke. but if you was to look in my boat i will always have a fluke or a slug-o tied on one of my poles no mater what time of year it is.

All great advise. For a colors change try the watermelon seed with the tail dip in chartreuse dye. I'm very careful when adding weight, tends to take away from the action of the lure. As said above, I use a larger hook for weight for a quicker fall. Flukes also works great as a trailer on the back of your best spinner bait. Good Luck

Try a small finishing nail for weight if needed. I prefer the hook change for weight though. Also try the Arkansas shiner power fluke.

    Re: flukes

Great bait, tricky technique, all out fun.

I use a Fluke Jr. in pearl white here on KY, 5/0 Gamakatsu hook, 10# Flurocarbon line, spinning reel on a 6' med/hvy rod. I haven't read it yet on here but I tie a barrel swivel about 18" above the hook which gives me all the weight I need, also helps with line twist tremendously. You can work it any number of ways, #1 Keep the rod high and work it like a spook/sammy and it skitters across the surface (5lb smallie nailed that one) pause everso often to let it sink about a foot of twitch it back to the surface work on top 5 - 6 ft pause, repeat. #2 Cast out and let sink, it falls slow so try it right next to the boat so you can see the speed of fall and fling it, if you feel anything repeat ANYTHING bump your line SET THE HOOK! this is a slow fall and when it hits bottom it doesn't "bump"...... it's a fish! Use it on fish holding locations even if you don't see any surface activity, use it around shad schools, so on.

Watch for the tick/bump on you line! hope this helps it's tried and true for me and I have passed it to many who find it very successfull

    Re: flukes

there is another way to fish it that i am going to try this year. you can also use a three way swival with one leader about 6in. and the other about 10 to 12in. and fish two of them at the same time. i hear this is a real good way to fish flukes. when i try it i will let you guys know how well it works.
