    Wolf Creek Dam Fishing

Is anyone been below the dam in the past week? I was there at the end is Feb. and fishing was good for the big browns. I am planning on going this Saturday and was wondering how the fishing was. I plan on putting in at wimphry ferry of helms landing. Any help would be great because I live in Corbin and hate to drive that far without a bite. I would also like to know how high the water is. Hate to go and be too much water. Thanks and have a great day.

Minnows and curly tailed white grubs mainly...been hearing the waters high, havent been in several weeks about to go next weekend. They were catching sauger faster than i could count on minnows and grubs when i was there just below the dam. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Where did you put in at? Are they catching them closer to the dam or down past the rockhouse?

We fished off the wall just below the dam, dont have a boat yet so we were limited to the bank...they were all catching the sauger in boats just out from where we were standing...pretty frustrating not being able to get out there and not catching any fish but it was entertaining watching all the boaters in the rough waters. They were all pulling out around noon or so with their limits. This has been several weeks but I have heard they are still catching them pretty steadily in the high water.

Anyone think that they will stop pushing so much water through any time soon? Im thinking about heading down there in a few weeks and hoped to be able to wade...

Was just on the CR Wednesday and the water was way up. We were in a boat, so it was fishable for us. Hard to fish it from the bank though with that flow. Caught some trout but no eyes or sauger. I don't think we knew what we were doing when it came to the sauger. We tried grubs, worms, jigging spoons, etc. Only trout.

stimy2001, heres the # to wolf creek dam: (270)343-0153. call it before you go and it will tell you the generation schedule for that day. as they get the main lake back down closer to 680,they should cut back on some of the outflow making it more fishable.

Fishing is really slow...you have to fish some pretty heavy stuff right now to get down to the structure where the fish are holding (trout). They won't slow down the flow until the lake is almost at 680.00. I would imagine if we don't get much moisture in the next week they'll have slowed down by the start of next week. But I did see on the weather there is some precip coming our way...

If they are pushing 22,000 or 21,000 I don't know if there'll be a ramp at Helms because the water might be in the parking lot?? I've been once before when the top of the ramp was out of the water, but you could see where water had been in the parking area and they were running all generators wide open.

If you go...Good luck and tell us how you did.

I stand corrected! They've dropped it to 7,000 so by all means go fishing!! You should slay the trout and if you fish the dam you'll probably get those saugers and eyes too! Temps for today and tomorrow 51/33 will be fine for fishing...good luck!
