    Attention Military Retirees

FIRST NOTE: I strongly recommend that you copy and paste this to an email and forward it to all your friends & family that are military retirees. But PLEASE ASK THEM DELETE YOUR NAME AND EMAIL ADDRESS FROM THE FORWARDED EMAIL. You don't want your email address going all over for Spammers to pick up. You might also want to post this on any other web site you frequent.

SECOND NOTE: This email is rather long, but if you are Military Retired, it is very important that you read it and act to prevent loss of your earned benefits (Tricare and Tricare for Life)

If you are retired military, regardless of your age, please read this. Retirees under age 65 have several Tricare options, but once you turn 65 and start using Medicare, Tricare for Life will become your best Medicare Supplement and right now its free, but that may change. Keep reading to find out why.

Below was copied from a Retired Enlisted Association web site:

Subject: Tricare-for-Life on OMB Chopping Block.

If you know of anyone who is Retired Military, please forward this on to them.

I don't know how many of you partake of the Tricare-for-Life program but here is a very interesting note on the subject. Seems as though our President-elect has placed a priority on cutting it out of the budget as a means to provide funding for those things he promised during the campaign. In any case, on page 189 of the Congressional Budget Office report, there is a strong recommendation to eventually eliminate the program as it is too expensive. I would ask that you contact your elected officials and register your strong opposition to the elimination of this program. Just another move to slight those of us who dedicated much of our adult lives to the defense of our country. Thanks for listening.

Heads-up from BG Bob Clements, USAF Ret (P38 BoB)

(A footnote: BG Bob Clement is known with affection as"P38bob". He flew P38s in WWII. He was one of the stalwart warriors that led effectively from the front when the hard battles were being fought to bring Tricare for Life to reality.)

For more information on this, please click on the link below, which will take you to an article on the subject in the Military Officers Association of America web site:

    http://www.moaa.org/lac/lac_asiseeit...eit_090108.htm

From what I have read/seen, the Military Officers Association of America and The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA) are gearing up to lobby Congress to prevent cuts in our earned benefits. Anyone that knows anything about Lobbying Congress, knows that the more members an organization has, the more likely a Congressman/Senator is to listen. The old saying STRENGTH IN NUMBERS was never more appropriate then it is in Lobbying.

If you are not already a member of one of these, I strongly recommend that you visit the appropriate website below and join ASAP. The cost of membership is nothing compared to what you may loose if our Tricare benefits get cut or eliminated. Besides, both organizations have great monthly magazines and a bunch of other member benefits. Check them out and look over their website at:

    http://www.moaa.org

    http://www.trea.org

One last thing, both of these organizations will ask you, and all its members, to write/email the President, your Congressman and Senators to help prevent cuts to Tricare. I personally think that writing an actual letter is better than email, but no matter how you do it, please write to them.

The TREA website has a option to send emails to your representatives and as far as I can tell, you don’t have to be a member to use it. First click on the TREA website above, then look under the LEGISLATIVE ACTION CENTER and you will see a place to enter your ZIP code, enter it and click on GO. You will get the name and picture of the President, Congressman and Senators, which you can then email separately or send one email to all of them.

Thanks for reading this. If you would like more information, do a GOOGLE search for: Tricare for Life Cuts. I sincerely hope you will join in the fight to prevent loss or cuts in our earned benefits.

    Grumpy,

    Thanks for posting this...........

One thing we should pay for as a country is the BENEFITS for our soldiers. Military Pay is CRAP..........one of the reasons our military is a good as it is, is the soldiers who put their time in KNOWING they will be taken care of for life.

I'd much rather my tax dollars pay for a soldier who as paid his or her dues, than for a welfare mom popping out CRACK addicted babies.

I REALLY hope this is not true, but it would not surprise me.

After all, this is what the LAST GREAT Democrat in office did:

This is how our military was decimated under Clinton, supported 100% by John Kerry

These were all Military CUTS.......part of Clinton's Peace Dividend.....

    709,000 regular (active duty) personnel.

    293,000 reserve troops.

    eight standing army divisions!

20 air force and navy air wings with 2,000 combat aircraft

    232 strategic bombers.

9 strategic ballistic missile submarines with 3,114 nuclear warheads on 232 missiles.

    500 icbms with 1,950 warheads.

four aircraft carriers and 121 surface combat ships and submarines plus all the support bases, shipyards, and logistical assets needed to sustain such a naval force.

    Re: Attention Military Retirees

As a retired Soldier this is the MAIN thing that bothers me about putting my time in for this GREAT country. We have NOTHING in writing that guarantee's our pay, benefits, ect, and ALL this can be taken away with a simple act of congress. We could not be any less protected than we are right now from getting things taken away, instead of added to our well-being.
I would agree, if you do support those of us who have served, it could mean a world of difference to us with whether you decide to speak up or be part of the "slient majority" on this one. Take care and God Bless.

    Re: Attention Military Retirees

First off, I want to thank Peter for making this post stick on top of the board. I feel it is very important for as many people as possible to see it and keeping it on top will help to do that.

Second, so far this is going fine and the two posts above are good ones; however, last night I got to thinking about how some posts start out good and end up in a political free for all, or deteriorate into something else. Before that happens, I want to ask everyone:

PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS POST INTO A POLITICAL THING!!

What I have written above is not the first time this has happened, under both Democrats and Repulicans, and I am sure it won't be the last time, even if we can prevent cuts this time.

Grumpy..thanks for putting this out there for folks to read. As you said, these attacks on our veterans benefits have been going on for a long time by both parties. This country has a record of not taking care of the folks that served, especially disabled veterans and retired folks that spend most of their productive life in defense of the nation. This is especially so at the end of major conflicts...we as veterans must be diligent in our fight to keep those benefits we have earned and fight for those that come after us.

I salute all you that have served, yes vets deserve better than they get esp the ones who gave limb and life or are coming back in a stuper. These guys risk their lives every day and when they get home, well some of you know how they are treated. The gov needs to step up for vets as they are the ones who give us gov anyway, their blood and time is what has keep this country alive and they deserve the best, my dad is a navy vet, and I am proud of him for serving and honored to be his son. Thanks to all you vets

Peter, thanks again for holding this on top. I hope all of the military people that need to see it have seen it and now it can float down with the rest of the posts.
