My late brother in law was a lineman for KU in lexington back in 2003 and he was called in to work ot during that storm. He worked 3 straight days of 18 hrs each, slept at the KU facility the other 6 hours a day, came home on day 4 for around 10 hours after working the previous 14, then went back for 7 straight days of 18 hour days before coming home again for almost a full day this time then it was 7 more straight days of 18 hour days. Biggest check he ever made plus they went down south somewhere and helped another state a few weeks later. The sad part is that the news coverage was reporting all of these complaints of how bad KU was handling the situation and I know first hand they were doing all they could do. I do miss my brother in law for he was taken from us all too soon and absolutely LOVED being a lineman for KU. Nights like this and he would be the first man there ready to get his truck out on the road and start fixing stuff. Elnut

More to come. It started here last night around 5. Still seeing ice, sleet and some snow. About 60m without power in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. Hope some of it misses you.

Hey Elnut, I hope it was your brother-in-law I took a thurmos of coffee to in my backyard back in 2003. I KNOW how hard the linemen for KU work during these major situations and the leser ones too. I good friend of mine and the most senior member of my bass club is also a KU lineman and I have an enormus amount of respect and appreciation for the work he does. Even though the world is comming down around them and their lives, they have to put all that aside until the work is done and everybody has electricity again. God Bless the men who step out in the cold and dangerous situations just so our lives are more comfortable. Very sorry about your brother-in-law.

    Re: Crazy Ice Storm!!!!

Friday...first day back to work. Still no power at home in Valley Station/PRP area of Louisville. Stood in line 1 1/2 hours for a generator and was lucky to get one. Went home, re-wired the furnace to run off the generator so now we have heat. Lots of damage outside though as far as tree's and fences are concerned. In my own opinion this ice storm is worst than the wind storm we had, it looks like a lot more clean up to me. I suspect we'll be without power for every bit of the 7 to 10 days they mentioned on the news.

Wednesday I went to Radio Shack and bought one of those crank up radios so I could listen to WHAS radio for the latest news, etc...for 30 something dollars this is probably the best thing I've ever spent money on in my life. I recommend you all get one if you ain't already got one.
