    Braid on Spinning Gear?

Do any of you guys use braid on your spinning gear? If so what applications do you use it for, and do you think it gives you an advantage over using mono or fluoro. I see that a few pros use it, because the diameter is so small you could get away with using 15lb braid, that has the size of about 4lb mono. It looks as though it would be a great way to use braid, I just wander about the color of braid, and since its not as clear as fluoro, it seems that it would be a disadvantage except for muddy or stained water applications. Let me know what you guys think.

i've been using the fireline since it came out on spinning gear.i use the flame green to nite fish with it shows up good under blacklight.i was leary of it at first & tried it one day after i got it during the day my son was using mono & i caught as many if not more fish than he did.i use 10lb. test, i've fished of a nite with my buddies that were using mono & caught as many fish as they did.don't break off & have to retie near as much plus you've got alot better feel with it.i tried the suffix braid this past summer it doesn't work as good gets kinks like mono & coating comes off real fast doesn't last long.

    just my 2 cents worth

I use braid on my spinning rod when throwing topwater walkers and poppers exclusively. I used the Stren Microfuse, and it was ok, but then went to the Suffix. I love the suffix alot and it casts like a dream. I haven't had any trouble at all since I got it and actually switiched brands of braid on my Muskie gear too because of how well it preformed for me.

I use fireline on mine for throwing small baits. Floating worms and senkos mainly but an occasional jig.

When tying braid to a spinning rod you should put on a mono backing first otherwise the braid tends to spin on the spool. Did not see anyone else mention that, so not sure if it has happened to others but it did to me. Someone suggested the mono backing and it took care of the problem.
    Problem occurred with Fireline.

Take a peice of tape to the spool when spooling it also is another way, far as the spinning reel when using braid for my self I like a reel that has a line reduction or like diawas with the twist buster it will get rid of alot of wind knots, not all of my reels have that feature so I will use a barrel swivel with the line and that will reduce line twist, thats where you get your wind knots.

I've always stolen my wife's broom, took the handle to the table saw and cut off several 6 to 8 inch lengths of dowel. Wrap the line around the dowel and pull till the snag comes free or you break the line.

PS: It's easier to steal the broom if the wife ain't riding the dang thing around the house.

It would be better to try and open or break the hook off than just cut the braid and leave all that line in the water......JMO.

I got a spider wire reel and rod the first year it came out[still have most of the original line], since then i have used braids from 8/1 to 90/?[downrigger], trhe most important tip I can give is this, loosen your drag,3# 2 dont over fill your spool 8 of my spinnings rod have braid,5 of my bait casters have braid, but I do use flouro, as a leader ec cept when surface fishing.

    Re: Braid on Spinning Gear?

I always use a fluro leader and tie using a blood knot or other knots of the same strength you can use 20# braid and it is the diameter of 6 to 8# test and you can cast it much further than usual mono, plus you have the feel when the lure is WAY out there and with the "no stretch" factor you get good hooksets, search the internet for a Scott Martin video on using braids - I thinks it's on a Scott Martin Challenge on

    http://www.myoutdoortv.com/show-micr...challenge.html

Look for the "John Sappington Fishes Stuttgart, Arkansas" episode I believe that's the one where he talks about it
