You know, I've read the entire bill...
Basically, it's proposing a similar system as we have in Kentucky for Concealed Carry Licenses. Those of us that have CCDW licenses went through a training course, qualified with a gun, paid all of the monies to instructors, local sheriff, and state police...and were issued a license.
Similar deal here being proposed it seems, on a federal level, but for everyone who even wants to own a gun...regardless of whether you are going to lock it away in the attic or carry it on your hip. Wonder if the Concealed Carry License would also be necessary, or be like an endorsement on a driver's license? I'm assuming the latter, if you want to carry.
Either way, I don't know that it serves to stop criminals from obtaining weapons! I mean, I guess if a criminal wants to walk into Sportsman's Warehouse and buy his weapon of choice for criminal activity it does...but will that really stop him? No. What it WILL do is increase black market street trade of weapons...the dirty birds will still get their guns and good old law abiding citizens like you and me will have a harder time getting them.
I don't necessarily disagree with licensing, similar to having to have a license to drive a car...but I disagree with the results that will come of it.
That's why I oppose. Letter en route to Ben Chandler.
Letter just sent to my rep in Southern Indiana opposing this bill.
What I read is that because of the tragic situation of Blair Holt this Congressman has decided to fix the problem of law abiding citizens getting handguns? Why not just crucify these people who commit the crimes? Simple you shoot someone and they die....your next. The message will be direct, clear and understood. We won't need 100 pages of drivel that repeats common sense and some nonsense.
The exceptions for now are antiques, gifts, bequest or other means by an indivdual to a parent, child, grandparent or grandchild of the individual. Peace officers, Armed Forces and such. That makes no sense to me and I suspect it was put in there to ease the minds of americans who feel like it's ok to take some action against legal gun owners but not total restriction.
These guys can shine a turd but when you break through the topical layer it's still a turd.
They say a fee of no more than $25. Well I'm aware of how gubment agencies actually interpret that.......it means $25 for now! It means another tax on the books that once present is easier to increase. It means laying the ground work for future restrictions....little by little bit by bit until we are wondering hat happened.
Of course this Bill has verbage of jail time and fines so a law abiding citizen forgets some paperwork, maybe ignorant of the details of a Bill like this or doesn't realize the crimnal background of someone he buys a gun from or sells to and before he can say a word he is in court paying lawyers, fines, jail time and getting a record. Now if your a criminal and do this you more than likely don't pay for your lawyer, knew what you were doing and prolly mean't to do the crime and we as tax payers prolly pay for his court costs.
Good old Democrats thinking for us again.
You know I wonder what the Grand State of Illinois has for a record of gun control and gun crimes? I wonder if maybe this Rush fool should fix his house and then worry about mine. I wonder what the details were of this tragic shooting that seeded this Bill? I wonder why crimes in inner cities and shootings in schools, post offices and gun crimes are always everyones fault except the Parents, School System and other social programs like Welfare? Maybe they should start with uhhh lets see...... if you get money from the gubment you get drug tests, home inspections for guns and drugs and cheating the gubment. Clean all that up and then come after average joe law abiding citizen!!!!
Might seem like rambling on my part but it's no different than what these bozo's do. What does welfare have to do with gun crimes? Prolly nothing or very little but that's my point. What do I and all the law abiding people have to do with gun crimes....you guessed it prolly nothing or very little. These guys can kiss the part of me that never sees sunshine!!!
If you have already obtained a CCDW, and you are registered with the Federal Gov. Will you still have to register as an individual or will they just require your weapons to be registered. Still a government "make more money from the honest folks" theme to me. I will send a letter forward since four years ago I applied for a FFL, went through all the steps required, went door to door with all neighbors who's property touched mine, paid all registering monies from city to state to federal. Then going to a hearing here in town to be told I could not recieve it basically because they did not want me to have it. And even then the city council was bothered and mentioned the fact that they could not restrict the amount of guns I owned personally. Makes you wonder who they are going to target first. As usual the most legal will be first in my opinion.
DJD you are right on.
