    Re: Smoking

It seems the only time that I do smoke now is when im fishing. I can smell the nicotine on my hands so Im sure it could transfer to your baits. I never really thought about it before. Sounds like a good reason to quit smoking all together or start using scents on my baits. Hmmmmm....I'll have to study that one for awhile.

Who calls him that? Never heard that one before and I am around these guys quite a bit. Also, does any crankbait expert chew Red Man?

I think that's true for most of us, even the non-smokers.
It's been slower the last few years.
My 86 yr old dad still talks about the "good ol days"

Do you guys really think that Bass are that smart? I personally think they eat first ask questions later.
Heck, look at what they eat already. Metal, tin, lead, plastic, rubber, paint or whatever else they make baits out of. Oh, and now they have Coffee scented baits. We have all heard of WD-40 being sprayed on baits and what about suntan lotion/sunscreen? Anyone use that while fishing? Are we to believe that now they don't like Nicotine? LOL! I don't think so. JMO

BTW, back in the good ole' days I wonder how many baits were made that were not finished with some sort of paint? I wonder if the fish liked Cedar as opposed to Poplar or Pine???

    Re: Smoking

has any one seen the cheech & chong movie cant remember the name where he is by a pond smoking and the fish comes out of the water and ask for a hit. that tells you there they dont care because everything in the movies are reel. like some one else said, they have coffe baits and if you smoke you know that coffe and cigs go together. i wonder if you can catch a bunch of catfish on cat nip.

All the guys on tour call him that. I heard Kelly Jordan say that was the nickname they gave him.

I guarantee you they don't like it, just put some tobacco in an aquarium
and watch. Fish won't touch it, in fact they'll avoid it and get as far
    away as they can.

Try chewing tobacco sometime (if you never had)
    and see how you feel.

Fish aren't as stupid as you think, a bass may hit just about anything, but they also
spit it out if they don't like it. every fisherman has experienced that.
    they definetly don't swallow everything.
That prooves they taste and smell, and once they hit it and spit it out
it's really hard to get them to hit the same one again.
That's why bait selection is important, prooving they do choose.

What does that have to do with the "fisherman" (not the fish) smoking?

    Re: Smoking

You guys make good points. bass really arnt very "smart", they just react to everything that happens; i mean they dont have a thought process. when they hit your bait it was probably a reaction, most of the time if they come to investigate they arnt going to bite anyway. the reason i think its important to have some kind of cover up on your plastics and jigs is because once a bass hits he's going to react by spitting it out if its out of the ordinary. i dont know how many times ive had my line to tight with a soft plastic and the bass picks up and spits it out because he felt the weight and i couldnt set the hook fast enough, same sort of thing with taste and smell i think.
