SCUBA diving for bass partner needed

A couple of years ago I got certified in SCUBA diving for one reason and that was to study bass underwater. If you think about it, what a great way to pre-fish a tournament. You never have to guess whether the fish are in a particular area, you can dive down and see them there and the type of cover or structure they're holding to. I learned a lot about bass in just the time I did my open-water certification at an old rock quary around Lagrange.
The first rule in SCUBA diving is to never dive alone. Your buddy's air supply is your back-up air and your's is his. So, I'm looking for another "basser" who is certified in SCUBA to see if you'd like to pair-up and do some "bass searching/studying" in some lakes around here. If you haven't dove in awhile, the rock quary near Lagrange is stictly limited to scuba diving and has lots huge bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill in it and is a great place to rehone your diving skills.

It's about an hour driving time northwest of Lexington. Head out 64 west from Lexington and turn north before you get to Louisville. you wouldn't believe the fish fish in this place.

Been to that Rock Quarry in LaGrange---I did some "swimming" or actually floating on that pond. Technincally you are not allowed to "swim" but you have to have a float. Loaded with fish!
I do not scuba dive, but have always thought it would be cool to do that.

Have you seen the show Hook N Look? It's a really cool fishing show and goes along with what you are talking about.

My son recieved his certification there, and he also said there was huge bass and catfish in that lake, shame the owner will not allow anyone to fish. If I had my certification, getting it this summer, I would go with you, sounds like alot of fun. Maybe this summer we can do it, going to start class mid spring if I have the funds.

u might want to check into this i got this right of www.fw.ky.gov so i would contact them before i went into a big lake i dunno what the fine is or whatever

I recieved my diving cert quite a few years back. We spent alot of time down under at Lake Cumberland in the mid 90s learned a lot about how bass react to cover and even certain lures. It is a great way to learn for sure.
I spent some time talking to the kdfw at one of the docks on cumberland about diving and they never mentioned any thing about it being against the rules

I would be up for going back down with you sometime this summer.
We have family that lives in LaGrange I also have a 250 acre private lake in Lawrenceburg IN that we can dive in that usually gets pretty clear in the mid summer.

well i was just giving the info from the fishing and boating guide..... i didnt want to see any of yall to get in trouble and have to pay fines or something...

Todd I will contact you this summer about doing some diving in Lagrange and even at your pond in Indiana. I'll have to check into what EKUbasser said about the fish and wildlife rules. As long as you have your diving flag floating directley overhead, you should have any problems, I wouldn't think. I've seen several groups diving at the old ramp at Holcomb's Landing on Cumberland. The dive store I go to, New Horizons, even sponsors a pig roast and treasure dive on Laurel every year. I'll check into this and get back with you Todd. Even if we can't dive the fish and wildlife lakes, you can still learn a lot about bass and other species just diving the quary.

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that diving is only prohibited in KDFWR lakes. I'm just thinking that from the way the regulation is worded. Cumberland is a COE lake so it may allow diving (would want to check the COE website/rules) but I am no diver so don't take my word for it.

The COE lakes allow it. Once it is a little warmer (maybe a lot warmer) I would be interested. I have dove quite a bit in saltwater but never in fresh water.
