Whether if comes from oversaes or not, it's Americans that buy it. But only when Americans got the money to do that. Want to fry someone for the economy? Aim at a banker that qualififed folks for loans they can't afford, that adjust to a higher rate when the house is now worth less in a deflating market, who can't refinance as a result, and is now about to lose the roof over his kids heads. Nope, that poor American soon to be non-homeowner is not in the mood nor financially capable right now to worry about if the dang clock or phone or computer, or watch, or phone came from overseas. In fact, he's just glad he can still buy somethings that are inexpensive and reliable, just to make ends meet.
Great exchange of ideas, but folks, lets not hang the ribbon on the wrong folks. It isn't Chinese or Korean electronics, or German Cars, or Swiss Knives that got us here. Its a banking financial system that in many cases was more worried about making money then really taking care of people. But that's my opinion I may be wrong. (DICLAIMER...I SAID SOME BANKS, SOME BANKERS, NOT ALL)
And last word......blame also fits on the buyer who accepted more than he could afford. Responsiblity begins with "I", as in me, as in "ish". Maturity and responsiblity means knowing the difference between the $200,000 house you dream of, and the $100,000 house you can afford, meets your basic needs, and still save some money to put kids thru school.
My boat is 15 years old, my truck and the wifes car are not new and right at 100k miles each, I'm out of a job, the wife still has hers, but the house is paid off, after 15 years of living in it, and scraping the money together to get that done first, then pay off the cars, then the boat. In priority order, that which was truely important got done first. One buck at a time, while seeing others buy homes twice as big and nice, and new cars every 2-3 years, and new boats whenever they dinged a prop. I got no complaints. But don't invite me over to see your 6 month old $300k house, $35k bass boat, new Chevy truck, and then whine to me that you might get kicked out cause the house payment is going to adjust up with a new interest rate, and you don't know where the money is coming from for the higher house payment. And at that point, I don't want to hear a complaint about "foreign goods" that cost less in our stores. Cause without them, I'd never had enough money to get the my house, then my cars, then my boat paid off.
But again.......I might be wrong.
