Don't know about the Dix, but in river Littler River (it feeds Barkley) you can catch them at the mouth right now. They'll probably start running up to the ripples in about mid to late March. So, if you're looking for the best time, I'd say to start fishing the shallow running waters in early April. If you've got a boat then you could probably fish the deeper mouth right now.
