John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am.
While His coffepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking,
he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).
He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA),
designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE),
and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).
After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA),
he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO)
to see how much he could spend today.
After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN)
he turned on the radio(MADE IN INDIA),
got in his car(MADE IN GERMANY),
filled it with gas mafe from oil(FROM SAUDI ARABIA),
and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.
At the end of yet another discouraging day checking his computer(MADE IN MALAYSIA)
John decided to relax for a while, so he put on his sandals(MADE IN BRAXZIL),
poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE),
and turned on his TV (Made IN INDONESIA),
and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in AMERICA.

So you SEE, the problem with John is NOT that he cannot find a decent AMERICAN JOB......
The problem is we PAY wages that CANNOT be SUSTAINED in this country with what we're willing to pay for products.
Maybe you're willing to pay triple or QUADRUPLE for some products to get American Made, but quite frankly, I'm NOT.
I have said it once and I will say it again.........UNION LABOR has ruined this country. At one time, it was needed, but now, all it does is INFLATE the price of EVERY PRODUCT we PURCHASE.........GET RID OF THEM..........
I'm sorry, but this is how I see it.
Later,
Geo
Lets all remember:
1. All that stuff from over seas arrives here a a port, Americans off load it.
2. American truckers take it to the distribution centers, where Americans warehouse it and plan its distribution. Another american trucker hauls it to the retail store.
3. Local Walmarts sells the stuff, or K-mart, or Bass Pro or Cabelas. READ that mucho Americanos.
4. Americans buy the goods, that they consume in their business to support the needs of other Americans.
Whether if comes from oversaes or not, it's Americans that buy it. But only when Americans got the money to do that. Want to fry someone for the economy? Aim at a banker that qualififed folks for loans they can't afford, that adjust to a higher rate when the house is now worth less in a deflating market, who can't refinance as a result, and is now about to lose the roof over his kids heads. Nope, that poor American soon to be non-homeowner is not in the mood nor financially capable right now to worry about if the dang clock or phone or computer, or watch, or phone came from overseas. In fact, he's just glad he can still buy somethings that are inexpensive and reliable, just to make ends meet.
Great exchange of ideas, but folks, lets not hang the ribbon on the wrong folks. It isn't Chinese or Korean electronics, or German Cars, or Swiss Knives that got us here. Its a banking financial system that in many cases was more worried about making money then really taking care of people. But that's my opinion I may be wrong. (DICLAIMER...I SAID SOME BANKS, SOME BANKERS, NOT ALL)
And last word......blame also fits on the buyer who accepted more than he could afford. Responsiblity begins with "I", as in me, as in "ish". Maturity and responsiblity means knowing the difference between the $200,000 house you dream of, and the $100,000 house you can afford, meets your basic needs, and still save some money to put kids thru school.
My boat is 15 years old, my truck and the wifes car are not new and right at 100k miles each, I'm out of a job, the wife still has hers, but the house is paid off, after 15 years of living in it, and scraping the money together to get that done first, then pay off the cars, then the boat. In priority order, that which was truely important got done first. One buck at a time, while seeing others buy homes twice as big and nice, and new cars every 2-3 years, and new boats whenever they dinged a prop. I got no complaints. But don't invite me over to see your 6 month old $300k house, $35k bass boat, new Chevy truck, and then whine to me that you might get kicked out cause the house payment is going to adjust up with a new interest rate, and you don't know where the money is coming from for the higher house payment. And at that point, I don't want to hear a complaint about "foreign goods" that cost less in our stores. Cause without them, I'd never had enough money to get the my house, then my cars, then my boat paid off.
But again.......I might be wrong.
Your not wrong at all, that's what we have been saying for along time now. Alot of this country has elected to go with the entitlement mentalityLets all remember:

which in my opinion is why Barry got in office. The handouts just keep on coming because there is little to no personal responsibility.
I say we aim at the Government that tells banks that they have to loan to people that are too poor to afford the house then the Government protects the ones that are in charge of letting us know they are going down the tubes. THen those same people after making millions off of entities they have run in the ground become advisers to our president. THe Government is the first place to look.
The problem might be that John lives in Sri Lanka working for Wal Mart making those shirts. He wakes up and finds the tea leaves he has been using for a month to make his morning tea and is thankful that Wal Mart pays him 20.00 a week and he only has to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. He dreams of the possibility that he might get a couple more meals out of the rotting monkey meat the company gave him last week as a bonus for putting in 40 hours of overtime. He is so thankful that the great American Company has chosen his country to manufacture their goods rather than having those arrogant American workers do it for them that are demanding such ridiculous wages....imagine, wanting to be paid enough money to send their children to schools rather than have them work in the factories like their parents and not to mention their outragous demands to want to own a whole house to themselves and buy fresh food for their families. So what if John made 3000 shirts last week and only got paid 20.00 for his effort....he figures Wal Mart deserves to make that big profit they are making by having their goods made here in Sri Lanka instead of the U.S.A...they are taking such great care of his family.

What is actually ironic, this guy, John, is indeed thankful to have a job to feed himself, his family, and have a roof over his head. He isnt asking his government to do it for him like they do here!
Wal Mart distributes products, I don't think they manufacture anything. I disagree they are the evil empire they're often made out to be. Also don't believe they are the reason people in some other countries are poor and hungry. Never once heard of them dispensing monkey meat in Sri Lanka. The problem might be that John lives in Sri Lanka working for Wal Mart making those shirts. I've spent a considerable amount of time in other countries working with people employed by American companies. In every case they are treated fairly and paid better than other jobs available to them.
Fact is that Wal Mart and many American based corporations go into these countries, front the money for the locals to start up the sweat shops and then get exclusive contracts to have them make their products and sell the products to Wal Mart and others like them. No, they are not the manufacturing element..they just set up the chain so that they can buy the products dirt cheap at the price of inhumane working conditions and poverty wages which they could not get away with in this country. No matter how you look at it....a frog is a frog is a frog...no matter how you disguise it. You may be right, they may not have monkey meat in Sri Lanka...but you are not the only one that has traveled..I have spent more than 9 years in SE Asia, Far East, South America and Central America...and I met and saw with my own eyes folks working for slave wages and poor working conditions basically owned by the companies they worked for making goods to be shipped to this country undermining the American economy and American worker. Sam Walton would turn over in his grave if he saw the American values that he established Wal Mart upon thrown away in the name of shameless greed.
Note: I said nothing about Wal Mart being the reason that folks in other countries are poor and hungry..heck most of those folks are happy to have those sweat shop jobs because without them they would have no job....but companies like Wal Mart are a big part of the reason there are people now out of work in this country.....like Ross Perot warned....that sound you hear is the American jobs being sucked out of the country by a bunch of greedy companies that have lost their sense of morality and patriotism to support their own country and its citizens. Yeah, I know, it is all the fault of the American workers..not to worry...at the pace we are outsourcing the only jobs that will be left here in the future will be working at Wal Mart and McDonalds competing with illegal aliens for the lowest wages. Just can't figure out why those illigals would want to leave such fine paying jobs and great working conditions in their country making goods for Americans and come here...guess they know something we don't or rather just would rather not face up to.
