Flourocarbon Line

im gonna use more flouro this year. i have just not opted to in the past because of the memory. What baits do you guys use when throwing your flouro and why is flouro the better opiton in each situation than the mono? thanks!!

I am going to fish less flouro this year. On baits where sensitivity is a must - bottom bouncing jigs and worms flouro is usually preferred. Also, because it sinks and has a smaller diameter, it really helps getting crankbaits down. Mono is a must on topwater, it floats and you will get a true action.

I am only going to use flouro this year on my deep diving crankbaits, and deep water jigs, only. I had a hard time with flouro breaking last year especially in brush and rock piles - especially when fishing shallower. I don't think you sacrifice much sensitivity when fishing shallow with a good co-polymer like gamma. When you get much over 10 or 15 feet down, I think the sensitivity of flouro really helps - so I will keep it on my deeper water set-ups.

You really have to re-tie often too. I fished with Dave Stewart last year, and he on Gamma, and I had on flouro. He told me if we both had a tiny knick in the line, and both had a fish on - I would have time to help him land his, because mine would never make it to the boat. This echoed in my head repeatedly last year with ever fish that broke my flouro.

For Flouro line, Seaguar Invis-x is by far my favorite. I am just like Offdtop - I tried them all.

I agree with the mono/flouro talk. You can tell the difference between a Merc and an Evenrude!!!!! Use flouro on anything that is slow moving and mono on everything else. Works for me, but I aint anybody.

I've used seaguar for years and have no problem You have to spool it right on spinning reels. You have to lay the spool flat on the floor and wind the line oon the reel after about twenty winds of the reel handle stop winding and drop some slack in the line if it twist bad turn the spool over and repeat check it again and the line should not twist. I have never used anything larger than 8 lb on spinning 10 lb may be to big.

Bass Pro Shops XPS Flourocarbon, no line conditioners, no kinks and very little memory. Best all around flouro on the market if you ask me.

My personal favorite is the Seaguar invizX. The castability and softness of this line is great on my baitcasters. Very little memory as compared to the rest of the stuff out there (at least with the 12lb line I use). The only draw back I have is it's expensive. I'm going to try out the XPS floro this year only because it's a little cheaper.

I believe Gander Mtn has the InvizX, I've tried the carbon Pro and did not like it - this statement always causes controversy but more people agree than disagree. And I have never really heard it is impervious to chemicals - only to water in fact a dupont brand name is "Viton" a fluro elastomer (they call flurocarbon) and I deal with viton all the time and it can't be used on some chemicals due to chemical attacks. So with that sparse knowledge - couldn't that deem that some water based line conditioners may not penetrate???? Probably in my opinion

Ok after further looking into it I found the following:

Fluorocarbon polymer
Polymer is a term used to describe molecules consisting of structural units and a large number of repeating units connected by covalent chemical bonds....
s are also well-known. These polymers are tough, chemical inert, and electrically insulating.

The key word here is "inert" so flourocarbon is in the same family as teflon - so now the quandry "Line conditioners are they worth it on fluorocarbon lines"? I am going to check into it and get back with ya

Ok, I think i have found another Line geek like myself. In talking with a guy from Seaguar he told me point blank you did not need any conditioner and does not know why the KVD line conditioner states it works on flourocarbon. Might work on the fisherman more than the line.

I see now, I need to be a fish biologist and a chemist! A Fish Scientist, alot a good a history degree is now. I knew I should have paid attention in Chemistry.

Big bear just use catgut, just get back to basics.
I have always used the BPS xps, never had a reason to try anything else.
On a side note, 15 years ago the xps was very inexpensive. Now any flouro seems to be the highest priced. Is it just me?

I've never used any Seaguar but it seems to be popular. Anybody here try the new Abrazx? How does it compare to Invisix? I might have to see what everybody keeps talking about...

KVD Line and Lure Conditioner. Reel Magic smells like kerosene, and the smell takes a while to wear off. KVD LLC does leave a white film at times, but the film is water soluable, so it cleans itself off. It is also great for cold weather, and is odorless.
