A personal note..please read

I wanted to remind everyone to take their Annual checkups more seriously than I have in the past. I had mine (first in 10 years) with some questionable results so I had to see a specialist.

I had my Colonoscopy performed today and the results were fine. I was pretty stressed at myself for letting these checkups go for so long especially with my family History of Cancer but now I can breath a little easier and I won't pass up another checkup.

I was thinking how selfish I have been as I waited for my Doctor's appointment because I realized how many loved ones depend on me being here. I learned my lesson, from now on I'll keep those appointments!

Hate to hear about the doc being a pain in your ass (pun intended - haha), but I guess it's one of those things ya just gotta do. I've got prostate cancer and colon cancer in my family (grandfather), so I'm sure I'll be getting the silver stallion award and the kodak-up-the-bum before too long myself. I'm young, but aint getting no younger.

I waited too long for my rectal probe. I was almost sure that the PSA annual test would be sufficient.Well it wasn't cancer. It was the roto router. Found out I have a mionamaly functioning bladder.No cure, but its something that can be endured at present.

Great to hear things turned out ok Don. I've been a diabetic for about ten years now, heart problems and cancer run in the family, so My doctor puts me thruogh ekg's, Cat scans, blood test and you name it on a routine basis. I guess that's fine cause if anything ever showed up it would be in an early stage. Heck, there's a nurse at the office that has now seen me with no pants on more than my wife!

Thanks guys, I just wanted the other Men on here to realize that we should take care of ourselves. Women are alot more vocal about checkups while we kinda put things off.
Man the preparation for this procedure was brutal! No eating solids for 24-30 hrs before the procedure and then only sips of water from Midnight on the day of the procedure made it pretty tough. But it was worth it.
I'm going out tonight for some serious food!!

Good to here Don,this test is a must for all men regardless of age.The worst part of the procedure is the cleansing the day before.The rest is easy.With colon cancer if your getting symptoms you only have a 10 percent chance of surviving.If they find polyps early they can be removed before they turn cancerous.It only takes a polyp 4 0r 5 years to turn cancerous.I myself have a family history and my 36 year old brother has been dead for 2 years now.Ive had this done twice now,the first time i had 3 polyps removed-i was 29 years old!!.The last time-3 weeks ago-they removed a tumor big enough that it was blocking poop basically.Dont go by-a man has to go whens hes 50 bull-its not the truth even with out a family history.The colonoscopy is a fast,painless and non-embarassing procedure that could save your life from a painfull death.The worst part is taking a powerfull laxitive and not eating the day before the procedure.Period.

Great thread Don, I lost my father to colon and liver cancer afew years back and it is the worst thing I've ever seen. I've had two colonoscopy's sence his death both times they found three pollops (spell). In a way I think some how his death has saved my life for I would be the typical man and say I don't need to go to the doctor unless I'm hurtin. And yes the clean out the day before is the worst part for sure...I do the 30 or so pills with the citra something....yuk. Glad to hear all is well with you and John...Fiber is good..Chuck
