Seasonally Affected Depression: Man, do I have the winter time blues. No fishing, colder than Hades ,watched all of the fishing shows on DVR and just itching to get out of the house. Too cold to spend much time in my boat barn. Stock market so down my 401K is now down to my 200.5K

This has been one very long winter. Ice storms,wind storms, and feels colder to me than winters in the past. I'm just about out of wood for the stoves and can't seem to get the inside temps above 60 degrees in the house. I never thought I'd get tired of wearing flannel shirts 24 hours a day.

We are so close to the Spring fishing bonanza that I can't hardly wait! Cold dreary days at this time of year get to me more than the beginning of winter. Daylight savings time is 3-8-09 so that will help!

I'm packing my luggage heading to the Redneck Riviera (Alabama) for a couple of weeks. I can't leave before the weekend because I have to buy half of Lowe's to take with me. lol If you meet a 2008 Red Ford F-150 loaded like The Beverly Hillbillies, it will probably be me.


I talked to my engineer a few minutes ago and he was kidding me about being stuck in the house depressed and bored. He said it's supposed to be 80 degrees down there tomorrow and for me to "shuck off" my long johns before I arrive or people will think I'm a Hillbilly. lol

Sweetie Pie and I are taking our guns so we can get in some target practice on the armadillos. Would you like to come along and show us how to catch one that weighs about 50-60 pounds? I heard that if you don't keep the business end pointed away a person can end up with a mess on their best pair of overalls. Maybe when I get back home the S.A.D. will be a distant memory.

Funny you say that about 50-60 pound armadillos....My buddies and I were feeling 10 feet tall and bullet proof after a liquid lunch while playing in the Tosahatchee Hunting Preserve in Central Florida and while driving (we were young I know DUI) around the swamps we spotted some small pigs and without much thought (Ole Jack was thinkng for us) we threw that jeep into park and took off like a bunch of fools trying to catch those little guys. We thought it would be cool to hold one. When we finally gave up we realized....Hmmmm wonder where momma pig is? So with that we ran back to the jeep! Man I miss those simple times.....Have fun Bug!

Ahhh! I understand the last half of what you said but I'm still working on the "rich" part. Maybe the reason we aren't rich is because we spend serious cash buying fishing equipment.

I'm taking a BASS fisherman some of my favorite lures when I go to AL this weekend. I can use them to negotiate a fishing trip with him because he's desperate for those "killers." lol I carried him one of mine and he fell in love with it when he won the tournament, now he's hooked. (pun intended).

I actually really do suffer from this, had a doctor tell me so. If it goes for days with no sunlight I can get down right honery, ask my wife. I am one of them creatures that needs that sun let me tell ya. It will pick me up in one day if I get to soak some up, that condition is real and I do believe in it.

I am usually hit really hard with seasonal depression but this year it was not that bad. I think its mostly because I have a two year old daughter that keeps me busy. Really she is the only thing better then being on the water!

Jason, there ain't no such thing as the terrible two's when your the daddy of girls..lol.I got two one 9 one 13 and they have daddy wrapped for sure. My vitamin D stands for daughters. Chuck

I have it bad - Bourbon and Cigars used to really help. Gout has kept me from the bourbon, and the wife has kept me from the cigars.

When I was working 12-hour night shifts, sometimes I'd go for days at a time without seeing any sunshine whatsoever, and it used to affect me pretty badly at times, I think. Now that I'm on days it's not so bad, but I still don't like it when it's dark when I drive to work, and dark when I drive home. The datacenter where I work has no windows, so I try to make a point of going outside for at least a few minutes on my lunch break. It's actually called "Seasonal Affective Disorder," because in medical terms, your state of mind (happy, sad, angry, depressed, etc.) is known as your "affect."
