Any advice on Spring fishing Percy Priest?

I have a tournament done there in a few weeks, I was curious if anyone has any advice. I have never fished there before. I plan on going Sunday and Wednesday. What should I expect. I am used to fishing Rough, Nolin, and Barren.

raincheck, I have looked at the map and talked to a few people and they say its pretty clear and some real deep water. I have also heard its hit and miss. You might go out and wear the out or you might go and blank? I was wondering if anyone knew any colors that worked well down there, and if anyone knew a good place to start looking. I figured just to go all the back in the creeks and work my out until I found some fish? The weather is going to be so freakin crazy its going to be hard to get on a pattern. Thanks for the info though.

After you get back i would like too hear from you about how deep you think it is.Yes it was clear when i was there. Its a 15in lake no slot. The rock i got stuck on while using my trolling motor and fishing was just off the main channel in a small pocket.Had too use big motor too get off and did some glass damage.I know some guys that love it and if i had too i'll go back.It was early spring when we was there too.Good luck

I must have got some bad scoop, I talked to another guy I know and he filled me in. Be careful was his main point. Now I am paranoid as hell that I am going to total my boat when I go down there. I guess I will be idling most of the day Sunday. I appreciate you giving me the heads up though, if you wouldn't have said anything I wouldn't have gave it a second thought.

When fishing Precy Priest in early to mid March fish the flats. Fish mid lake looking for sloping banks those that have gradual slopes off points, coves, and creek mouths. The lake has shallow shelves of flat rock and mud similar to Nolin. At times you may be quite a distance from these places, but thats ok, you may have to fish them out to 15'. Throw half ounce spinnerbaits and 3/8 to 1/2 ounce jigs Slow roll spinnerbaits and swim the jigs. Shadraps are good if the water is clear, but midlake in early spring always seems to have some color. If you make contact with any cover when fishing these baits, throw back repeatedly. You may also find some bass in creeks on secondary, medium to flat points. Never pass up any stump flats off main lake without throwing rattletrap type bait.
The fish feed on large shad this time of year.

Re: Any advice on Spring fishing Percy Priest?

Thanks for all the info guys. I went yesterday and it was brutal. 25mph winds and the wind would cut you in half. I ended up with about 10lbs for the day and felt blessed. Raincheck is right, you have to watch your butt down there, you could be going along in 20ft of water and all of a sudden look down and be in 3ft. I just took my time and went real slow. I can see why the lake has been noted as a lower unit eater. I think even though its supposed to warm up this week, that front is going to have rain and it will shut the shallow fish off, just my opinion. I have been dead wrong before. Any thoughts?
