Thumbs up Re: shimano reels which one

I own all Shimano equipment, and for an all around reel I would recommend the older Curado D's (silver). I recommend them only because they have a 6.2:1 gear ratio. I own all new Curados and Chronarchs, bu the new Curados only come in 7:1 and 5:1, but that is fine for me -- I use the 7 for burning spinnerbaits and for fishing deep water so I can reel up slack line quickly, and I use the 5 for crankin'.

The 300E is a 6.2:1, but has a bulkier profile. I use mine only for flipping, swimbaits, and for when I need to use braid.

As far as spinning reels, I own a Stradic 4000FI (the newest model) and a Stradic 2500MgFA (the older magnesium reel). You can't go wrong with a Stradic. They are the best spinning reels I have ever purchased. They are expensive, but they are well worth the investment!

I guess it all depends the applications you will be fishing with your new reels. Maybe a little more info would help us. I can tell you Shimano makes the best equipment out there, and they stand behind their products.

I like the Curado D 100's. They are smaller and lighter than the 200's. If you can't get your hands on one of those for cheap - I like the new E's alot.

For spinning it is hard to beat the Stradic. I have one of the Stradic MG's and it is my favorite reel by far.

Stradic is the way to go. They are all good. But when it comes right down to it, the Stradic is still the best overall quality reel for the money. You will have that reel as long as you could possibly want it. preforming like it was practically out of the box.

For spinning don't get anything under a Sahara you are wasting your money if you do, if you can afford a little more of a spinning reel you want to get the Saros or Stradic, there seems to be a big change in the quality of the reel.
For casting, the new E series are lighter and less bulky then the D series, depends on your hand size. Many people don't like the D series due to the size and they feel it tilts the rod in thier hands. I did not notice that but has been told to me many times. The new Chronarchs should be out in the next week or so but they have up the price to 300.00 now which is a pretty good jump, but they are simalar in weight to the Core and less money than the Core. The new Citica E has the same amount of bearings as the old green curado's that so many people loved, and still do.... you may look at the new citica's also

I have a Sahara and I love it. Good reel for the money IMO. I just dont fish a spinning reel often enough to justify spending more money on one. As far as baitcasters I still use a bunch of the older green curados. I havent had any problems out of them so I havent used the newer ones, but when I do have to replace thats what I will buy.

If your looking for a good baitcaster you cant beat the Calais DC as far as Shimano goes backlash proof. As far as spinning reels go the Stella FD is also a bad mama jamma if your looking for new reels I'd go with one of the two.
