    Driftwood State Fishing Area

I am new to the state and have heard some things about the Driftwood State Fishing Area. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how the fishing was there. I am planning on taking a trip there probably in the beginning of April and just wanted to know how the fishing was there. If anyone has any tips or suggestions please let me know. I have heard that Plover Pit and Sandpiper pit are good in that area.

I've fished there a number of times but not in the past several years. I live witin 30 minutes but seems to be one of those places I just don't take advantage of.

The lakes there are VERY VERY clear and the fish do tend to be spooky. They've been stocking Tiger Muskies there for a long time and you will have good chances of hooking into one if you're fishing for them.

I've did well in early spring on decent crappie. There are also some good sized bass to be had as well. There also plenty of catfish and few stray smallmouth and spotted bass that get washed in from when the river floods.

The ramp is good condition and park is usually plentiful.

The area is also always in the news and seems to be a hot spot where locals gather for indecent exposure activity.

All in all I think it's a good lake to hit.

The lake fishes pretty well in the early spring. You can get on some nice fish if you are real stealthy. Once the water warms you need to be fishing at night. Night fishing there can be really good for numbers with the occasional nice fish. Plan on fishing grass as it is loaded with it.

    Re: Driftwood State Fishing Area

Driftwood Fishing area is a popular location. Unfortunately, last year one of the levees on Plover pit breeched during the flooding last year. At normal pool it is not a problem although a large portion of the road around the pit is blocked off. During flood conditions there is a good chance the pit will flood into the river.
