Quiting smoking

Chantix is the real deal, but it is also real expensive. It somehow specifically targets the reward center in your brain. After several days of the medicine you don't even want to smoke. When our hospital went smoke free several years ago all the employees got on it. The success rate was high and the reported side effects were low.

With that said though, Chantix was the number one drug in FDA reported adverse reactions for the last quarter.

Hey Bobby, quitired pharmacist here. I smoked for about 40 years. tried Chantix and quit.
I had tried patches,hypnosist, pills, etc but the Chantix worked.

Some side affects: Weird, vivid dreams and the one most alarming is increased suicidal thoughts. So if suicide has EVER crossed your mind, don't go on Chantix.

My vote: Chantix does work. Good luck and hang in there.

Chantix worked for me quit for 1.5 yrs now. Still think about it everyday but it's just a thought now. Don't bother me a bit. The doc that gave me the script said take it just like it ordered and smoke all you want. about a month and a half later, every time I would smoke they would almost make me throw up. All the sudden they were not any fun anymore. By the way talked too my dad just 15 minutes ago. He said he bought a carton today, $34.00, he's gonna start chantix tomorrow. good luck on quiting, think about all that extra fishing.

But I'll tell you something you may not want to hear, you never quit.I went 5 months after my heart attack, and the things were always on my mind.Gonna try again, not health, money. I had several friends who never smoked, anf they are gone, heat attacks, one had lung cancer, and never had a smoke in his whole life. Some of us have great genes, others dont. My aunt was 99 yrs old, and still smoked a few pall mall unfilterd, died in her sleep.Bugt now they want almost 3.50 for a pack of generics, thats my stimulus to quit.

Man your right about good genes. I knew several people who smoked and ate anything they wanted until the day they passed. Smoking is bad, of course those few exceptions are out there but as a rule look at what it does to your lungs, heart and overall health.

Man, the thought of quitting is great, tried it a few times myself. Had it down to two smokes a day at one time and the next thing you know there you go again. Health, money, government gimme, gimme. You would think that would be enough. Well, it just may be!! I'm with ya Bobby. I'll see how far I get this time.

I'm finishing the last pack I have from the carton I bought a week ago. I am. Going cold turkey. I walked in to bp and the sign said $ 35.98 a carton and I realized after nine years of killing myself that's its time to let it go so I can see my son grow old and any other children we may have in the near future. My wife doesn't smoke so the complaining she does about my bad habbit will stop. Only thing is its gonna be hard to sit down and have a coldone without the cigs.

i am currently using Chantix to help me with quitting. i quit with it before for 5 months but my dad got diagnosed with prostate cancer and i started again. he's fine now so im going to quit again hopefully for good. through the insurance at my work i get a perscription for $25 or so. but even if i had to pay the whole amount i would because the stuff really works. youll need a little will power but nothing like cold turkey. also theres no better support than your family, let them know what your doing and what your going through. i wish you the best of luck however you choose to quit.

Thanks for all the support and ideas. I am going to try cold turkey, it is harder but will power is what I need to stop. Motivation is almost 30$ carton, that is 120 + a month, that is a payment on a boat, truck, and the way the market is now a house in Detroit, lol, more bills pd, less cost for health ins, after a yr or two, life ins. I am not sure about the chantex, the thoughts of vivid dreams, I have them already, and the sucide thoughts. I am a state worker, so I dont need those thoughts, I want to live as long as possible, and fish. Thanks again guys. Just like Ike says "NEVER GIVE UP".

I already sent a PM to Bobby, but it looks like there may be several people that are or want to stop smoking--you notice I said stop not QUIT,

Anyhow, several years ago, I wrote a two piece newspaper article about how I stopped smoking COLD TURKEY. In the column I explain the reasons why I said STOP not QUIT. Many people have told me it was very helpful for them. Anyone that would like of copy can send me a PM with your email address and after I get back home on Thursday I will send you a copy. (Right now I am away from home and using a laptop.)

In my personal opinion and experience, if you really want to stop, you do not need patches or other drugs and can do it cold turkey AND IT IS ACTUALLY EASY.

CHANTIX! Been smoke free over 2 years. Chantix works on the craving but don't forget to work on the "habit" while you are at it. That is what will get you. BTW, since you are a state worker, your insurance will pay for the scrip. You just pay your deductible.
